gixxer shifting problems

Was practicing my 2nd gears today and i came down on one and tried to shift into 3rd and the lever wouldn't budge. Clutch will disengage but I can't upshift. So I pull over and try to downshift and it wont either. Stuck in 2nd gear basically, but it still runs fine. Am I correct in thinking its a bent shift fork? What other possibilities could it be?

Thanks guys!

but if it was my clutch basket my clutch wouldn't disengage right? If I pull in the clutch it will disengage and i can free rev it. It just one shift up or down.

HELP PLEASE!!!

Re: gixxer shifting problems

have you tried to budge it back and forth prior to trying to shift
so for example if its stuck in a gear rock it back and forth then try shifting while rocking the bike ??

Re: gixxer shifting problems

yea, and it wont budge. Only thing i can think of is its a bent shifter fork. I guess I'll see what it is once i tear it apart, which isn't a big deal, but I hate workin on transmissions.

Re: gixxer shifting problems

Your shift fork probably came out of the shift drum. There's a knob on the fork that rides in the drum and probably popped out from trying to clutchless shift. Fork is probably bent also. Not a big $$ problem though dont go buying a new motor yet. Just my :2cents .

NO NO NO, check all off the gear leaver, make sure its all ok, not bent, that happened to me after strapin in down in a van, if its not that, lay it on its right side and take the cacing off (this way you keep your oil) and look for anythin out off place or anythin loose. it wont be to much if the moto still run ok, but i'd say dont satrt it or run it till you fix it, cuz if there somethin broke and inside the moto you dont wont it fu(kin anythin else. this aint a mega hard job but try and get someone who know's a little bit to help out.

dont worry mate, it aint a Honda but looks so much better :YEAH

Re: gixxer shifting problems

sounds like a shift fork-the trannys in the 00 750s are notoriously the weakest ever built-lol-if you need one, i have a complete 02 engine with a rod knock ill sell you cheap, or just part the trans-hit me up. Mike

Re: gixxer shifting problems

OK i pulled the clutch cover off today and all it was is I broke a piece off my clutch basket and it got lodged inbetween the shifter rod and a hole in the oil pan. whew...that makes it a whole lot easier.

Anyone know the size of the socket I'm gonna need to take off that middle bolt that holds the clutch basket on?

Re: gixxer shifting problems

also, does anyone know off hand if an 04-05 gsxr 600 clutch basket will fit on a 00 750? or what baskets will interchange?

Re: gixxer shifting problems

suzuki part numbers are as follows:

2000-2003 gsxr 750: 21200-35811
2004-2005 gsxr 750: 21200-35820 DIFFERENT!!
2004-2005 gsxr 600: 21200-39820 DIFFERENT!!
2001-2003 gsxr 600: 21200-39810 DIFFERENT!!

appears to me as if youre going to have to find a used one, as the first part number (the one youll need) is discontinued and no longer available (save some leftovers somewhere im sure). Check ebay, or let me know if you need one.
