A quality 9mm defensive round leaves an almost identical wound to a .40 or even a .45

A .40 or .45 defensive round will be even better.

Barely. Supposedly wound tracks are almost identical.

Ask around, you will hear about gun fights where entire magazines of 9mm are unloaded intot people and it doesn't stop them. Transferred energy is also important. I have a H&K USP .40 compact and I plan on buying a Para ordinance Night Hog in the spring. You can't argure with 11 rounds of .45 ACP in a package that small.

The guy you shoot won't feel it either. You would be better off with a .22 magnum. Plus the cheaper smaller autos aren't the most reliable things in the world.

I've got a Tomcat in .32, its accurate but unreliable. I carry a G27 .40 on a regular basis. Do not get a Keltec!!!! The Karr pistols are super small and reliable but expensive. The snubbies that people are talking about on here are super reliable; they will always go off but the cylinder makes them sorta awkward to pocket carry.

I am also looking at a Noth American Arms black widow in a .22 magnum for a super light carry/ back up.

:killem Sounds good, just keep in mind that that sucker is an extremely close distance, "oh shit" gun. A guy gave me a .22 mag derringer the other day. GD that sucker is loud. If you want a pistol that you can forget about in your pocket that north american one is great. Keep in mind that if you want a gun for all occasions that you can take to the range every now and then and shoot for fun and practice you may want a glock or a small snubbie.

I got my H&K for that. I fully understand that the widow maker is a last resort weapon.

How comfortable are the glock 27's for carrying on a reg. basis. im thinkin about pickin one up... i've got a ruger p93 but i feel that that is a little too big to comfrortably conceal carry daily. how do you carry it?(waisteband-back , front, shoulder harness etc.)
