Going back to wheelies Hi All A few years ago was getting quite good at wheelies- at the balance point could go for miles at like 30 mph. Finished with stunt bikes for afew years whilst i got into track riding- 4 years actually. Now got a ktm 690 smc and whilst i can lift it into a wheelie my head is telling me not to- I`m nowhere near the balance point and my throttle control sucks-any advice much appreciated cheers Bob |
Re: Going back to wheelies shit load of practice |
Re: Going back to wheelies
shit load of practice
Yeah Pal thats what I thought. What has really surprised me though is the difference in four years- I mean I can see me in the past being really confortable with the headstock in my vision but cant believe how its just gone!! I suppose these survival reactions have to be re-calibrated- I`ll let you know how I get on. Cheers Bob |
Re: Going back to wheelies Well, I took the bike out today- I am trying to do an hour a day whilst I build up my skill set. Each day I`m getting better- I know my throttle control s coming back as I pulled quite a few controlled wheelies from a low rpm- rode them through to 4th. Still nowhere near the balance point but at least I`m riding them out through the gears- starting off in first at 10 mph. I feel as though I`m getting back to my old self. Really concentrating on slow controlled lifts with low rpm. All sitting- could only just get the hang of standing wheelies on my trial bike!! I`ll try to build on my skills each day- I just need to lift the bike another foot or two I reckon. Any help or pointers much appreciated. Bob |
Re: Going back to wheelies most supermotos your balance point is way up...on my drz400sm when sitting down, at balance point i have to look to the side to see, so that will tell you if your back far enough right there. its all about practice, lift it more and more as you feel more comfy. once you start lifting it up high enough and can play with the brake, youll have it in no time
Yeah Pal thats what I thought. Re: Going back to wheelies Yeah another day ( well hour of practice ) getting back to my old self I think- hearts not pumping every time I get into third! Did a lovely smooth wheelie into 4th today- noticed the tip of the mudguard is sort of just above the horizon- still chasing the wheelie but this one was at low rpms and felt really sort of gentle. Looking at the horizon where should my clocks be at the bp? Looking at the horizon is the only way I can guage how high I am. Bob |
