is 6o teeth in rear possibly too hard on engine?

so ive been stuntin on a f4i for a year and able to rip circles and and various other idle combos but im on my 2nd engine! my gearing is -1 front 6ot in rear. It seems to just bog when i try to roll on throttle. This has me questioning cause my buddy is way better and rippin way more technical shit hasnt popped a motor yet! and his gearing is 54 in rear.:shruggs
Any one have any thoughts? I know i should just get a 636 but dont have the money to start over for awhile.

i been running -1 +14 since i put my bike together over 3 years ago ..... havent hurt the engine yet . give more details of whats happening when it blows , but the gearing isnt your issue

I'm 60T rear also, 06' engine in 03' bike Never had any trouble with it though! I just run a lil extra oil, run GOOD oil, keep it changed regularly, and stay the FUCK off the rev limiter! That shit's nonsense!

+1 on the revlimiter stuff, i think at coaster heights that cant possibly be good for a motor. but it looks and sounds badass and is fun to do! :shruggs i dont know about gearing being better or worse for the motor but i would think its better for the clutch since it pops up easier with the bigger the sprocket you have

+1.... i dont think ppl really know how bad that is for an engine, ive seen ppl start up a cold ass bike an just blast it off the rev limiter for 5 6 7 seconds, i just squince and think...yup ill be seeing you in my shop soon

I think you quoted the wrong person. :shruggs

But ya atleast let your damn motor warm up if nothing else.

Re: is 6o teeth in rear possibly too hard on engine?

ya, ill have a smoke while i let the motor worm up. i havent even begun the coaster revs or burn outs. the last motor had crank bearings go, a meer $600 dollar fix yet to happen. but this motor has about 1/4 to 1/2 over fill for compensation on oil and i dont do 12 o clock burnouts. its starting to chatter and doesnt recover idle speed after tapping the brake it just keeps slowing till it stalls! i cant even start to work the thrttle in a circle cause it just bogs worse. so i thought just maybe the gearing actually was so low and slow the engine was fighting in revs to keep itself from dying and or from being responsive enough to recover.kinda like predetonation. mind u This is aaron coltons bike and set up!!!!!!!

well i dont know why you would say "i should just get a 636" have you read any of the million threads about all the problems everybody has with the kawi's? i love'em but they are very problematic.listen give your bike a tune up,plugs, oil and sinc the throttle bodies.take the -1 off in the front and try it.

Re: is 6o teeth in rear possibly too hard on engine?

going down in front is way overkill and i do believe its a bit more rough but damn a 60tooth out back should be plenty, im runnin a 60tooth on 600RR and a 66tooth out back on my F4i :2cents

If it's his old Icon bike I can tell you your problem is the rider and not the bike..Unless that bikes condition has gone down hill fast...

I have seen Aaron, T-ice, D-rail, and many others murder that bike...

Mine does that chatter like its gonna stall out when I get through a couple of circles, I dunno why its like a sputter. I heard valve chatter recently but I think its only because I fucked up and put the lawnmower's gas in the bike. The cans are identical and one has 93, the other has 87.

33k on my f4i, I hit rev limiter on it daily

still holding up fine

f4i's are made to run on 86 octane.. 93 don't do anything but cause you to lose power!

Other bikes, sure, they require 91+, but f4i's only USE 86!

well since its a sprocket thread im gonna ask one small ? an im out.. will 120 links be enough for +13 an stock front. 56 teeth stock front 120 links.. deal or no deal? if not then how many more links should i get..

Not sure what the problem w/ the bike is, but FYI, the more gearing you have....the EASIER it is on your engine. Good luck.

I used 118 links with a stock front, 60t rear on my f4i

Do the normal maintenace on your bike and you should be fine. Hondas are built like tanks.

Hmmmmm!!!!!..... im gonna try that! ive been using 93 the whole time. today we r gonna do a leak down test, check valves, and change plugs.

also i think im gonna put the stock front back on. no its not icon bike. it was a spare witha untouched motor but i took all his parts when he switched to kaw.

so what has been done to help low speed bog and response? I heard from d rail that a power commander worked but.... dont wanna waste 400 just for a small gain or is that the ticket? i tried taping one sie of the air box and didnt notice anything. thoughts????
