Do I need a high flow oil pump?

I just installed a Kitaco 88cc big bore kit w/20mm carb, cam and filter. Still using the stock head, and stock pipe. I'm installing the heavy duty clutch springs tomorrow......do I need to install a high flow oil pump? I bought got a kitaco oil pump and didn't know that I had to drill out the hole larger......well I installed my kit without the oil pump thinking I could just bolt on the pump later. I really don't want to tear it all down again because I'll have to buy gaskets again......I've heard that there is no need for high flow oil pump with my setup.....is this true for sure? I just don't want to screw it up. So far so good, it seems to run great!

Just ebay it off or save it for later. No sense in tearing the engine apart again for somthing that wont give you a performance boost.

ryan, ive got about 15 friends i have installed big bores on and not one oil pump. 2 of those bikes lost their drain plugs and ran them dry. well, those engines are still running a year later. personally i dont think they are needed. u decide.

Good luck on finding a 2mm drill bit. 5/64 us = 1.98mm

We are in the US, where STANDARD is king. Unless you are going to mail order your drill bit, 5/64 will work.

I wish we would go metric, but it's not gonna happen. :2cents

xidium
usually it shreds the head first
then the wrist pin bearing then if you still ride it itll get the bottom end
just depends on how long they rode them with no oil
if they were older ones they wouldnt be riding them without a new head cause the cam would weld itself to the head no roller bearings
i asked a friend who all he does is build honda race motors and he said put the pump in especially in the old motors without roller bearing cams
he said if you are thrashin the motor put it in so i would say put it in

Re: Do I need a high flow oil pump?

The Takagawa Oil Pump comes with a Drill bit included. ! All i know is you should take a stud out so you can drill out that hole. Those 4 long gold shafts that hold the bore and head. You will need to take the one out near the hole you drill. VERY EASY!!! This is my 2nd bore kit and kitaco is the shit. I had a takagwa before and presonally like the piston and the finish of the kitaco.

Oil Pump is a good investment. !
