Shifting question

Alright, I just bought a Gixxer 750, and I was skimming thru the manual. For shifting gears, it says you should be in 2nd gear at 12mph, 3rd gear at 19mph, 4th gear at 25mph, 5th gear at 31mph, and 6th gear at 37mph. Now my friend says that it would be ok to be in 2nd gear doing 45mph. Is this ok, or should I be in 6th gear? I'm new to this whole thing, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks

you should ALWAYS be in 6th gear by 37mph, 38mph at the LATEST!!!

if not you could screw up your flux capacitor :laughing

Like a lot of things the factory tells you, that is a little overprotective.
Listen toy our engine. It'll stress a bit if you cruise at too low of a gear. Also, look at how you're riding. If you'r cruising, use the highest ger you can without getting engine lag, riding some twisties, match the gear to the road... etc. Its common sense. I understand your worries, but sometimes service manual are like over-protective mothers. :2cents

Re: Shifting question

if its a brand new bike, its the 500 mile break in procedure and following it will help to seat your valves and rings so you have a nice smooth motor once you do start beating on it.

First off they are not going to tell you what gear you should be in to go 100 mph, if they did they would be held liable. And the break in period stuff is :bs I have followed this for my bikes http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm and had no problems what so ever

This is true... I had 2 of 200 '91 ZX7RR's that I raced and the Japanese Kawasaki techs all told me "run in hawd". The engines were great. Thise shifting quotes could be talking about the minimum speed to be in those gears?
