Made myself a subframe cage today

Well Got my subframe cage made today :)
can hold 2 guys of 180 pounds on each peg at the same time.. will handle a tip over from being on 2 wheels.. Will activate the brake on one wheel and Will either use up the "SUSPENION" or break the "break" weld.. and then you just needa weld the one peice back on.:yeah

Re: Made myself a subframe cage today

it has a LITTLE bit of play when slammed really are to get some obsorption. and the Break weld is welded to handle a certain amount of pressure.

:hello I've made quite a few sub cages and from lookin at yours, It seems like the pipe in the center that links the 2 sides together isn't gonna be high enough:shruggs...when you jump around the bike or mash the brakes hard, your suspension is gonna compress and that center tube looks like it'll hit your rear tire:shruggs the first one I made had that problem and it had more clearance than the one you built.

Did you build it on the bike to make sure you had enough room for suspension movement???

Just givin ya a heads up just incase you overlooked that important detail.
other than that it looks good

Re: Made myself a subframe cage today

looks like that but I'll take pictures tommorow.. The bar accualy tucks up into the under tray a bit. got plenty of room.. was jumping around on her today*with it on the ground* and it didn't touch or rub at all

It was test fitted as it was built. The back had 5" from the buttom of the subframe to the side of the tire*on a angle* And When all was fitted and done I had 4.1" left average travel was 2" leaving me with 1.9" on the sides to travel before rubing. the top down had 8" clearance down to 6-6.7"

Re: Made myself a subframe cage today

Good deal, mine was on an f4i and my rear suspension was set up too soft,I just got done makin another subcage, strongest one I've made so far,My friend machined and knurled some billet pegs that bling,I'm like a proud father with his new baby boy,ha ha.I can't wait to start jumpin HARD on this beast.Good Luck,Nice work!!!

Re: Made myself a subframe cage today

yah I got mine Knurled too(as you can see) Did you put a break or anything in.. It's pretty good!.. did you round bar it or no?

Oh and another thing i did was raise the pegs by 1 1/2" for more clearance!

Re: Made myself a subframe cage today

What do ya mean by "break"? do ya mean bends? or do ya mean a "fail point" so a weld breaks and not the subframe ear???

For the 2 sides that bolt to the subframe,I used 1/4" plate mild steel, then I ended up cuttin a 3/4" diameter pipe in half(so it looks like a U) then formed it to the back side of the brackets and welded it solid.Doin it that way took away ALL of the flex(bouncyness) you usually get when ya jump on the pegs and it adds a ton of strength,

The main "center" pipe that ties everything together is a thick wall 1" mild steel pipe.

Well I have to Breaks*bends* in here and I put a break point(fail point)

Did you diamond plate your subframe i did to give it some strenght from twisting itself.. you have any problems with that before?:apimp

Re: Made myself a subframe cage today

My sides have two bends or "breaks" each(one up-one down), just like yours except I don't have that "L" shaped piece you welded to them.I don't have any fail points,My subframe will explode before the subcage breaks lol,and I don't have access to a tig welder anymore so I didn't get a chance to weld my Aluminum diamond plate gussets to the subframe yet.I'm just gonna wait till I buy a new subframe to gusset it all up,my subframe has been broken in 3 separate pieces from Two different crashes. It's a lil tweeked, but not that bad.I made a jig to keep it straight while I welded it back together but I'll just run this subframe till it's unfixable.

Re: Made myself a subframe cage today

I'm not welding the diamond plate on.. just riviting that shit.

Re: Made myself a subframe cage today

Hmmmmm.Didn't even think of that lol,I been welding for so long that sometimes I forget there are other options for securing metal together,Welding is just the first easy fix that pops in my head.ha ha

rivit that shit.. 1/2 rivits

I'm gonna be making some fork sliders next week. Any recommondations?

Re: Made myself a subframe cage today

Nope,I dont run fork sliders and don't know anyone who does,I personally don't see any need for em.
