Metzger Retires

From Alex at MTX....

Mike Metzger, who raised the bar in freestyle motocross with a back-to-back back flip over a 50ft and then 80ft gap has announced that he is retiring from freestyle for one year. While others have done the flip, no one has executed the flip over an 80ft. gap nor has another back-to-back flip been done.

Metz has executed what is certainly one of the gnarliest tricks ever to be performed in freestyle, and is taking a year off to pursue other interests which include Super Motard. He will still do demos, but he reportedly will NOT be competing in Global X, Summer X or Gravity.

Still very much a part of freestyle, Metz takes his reprieve after cinching gold medals at the last Summer and Winter X Games. With those accomplishments which were fueled by his taking the flip to a new level of execution- the world of freestyle will be hard pressed to top Metz's feat during his year of retirement. If the back-to-back or larger gap trick out-does Metz in that time, I am sure he'll come back with something new.

Metz is currently racing super motard, and will be performing at the Pikes Peak race June 1st.

Nate Adams is in for Metz at Global X. He was the alternate and now he gets to ride. He leaves the next day to go to Europe to do some flippin'. Next alternate for Global has yet to be announced.
