I think some of my widest ones were using that technique, binding the brake against the gas and keep feeding in more and more throttle. Your tire is less likely to slip out if you keep the throttle smooth and the bike stable. It's the sudden gas, brake, excessive lean angle that's going to make you wipe out. Looks like you're doing good so far, with a lot more practice your bike is capable to ride fast circles around the ones you are doing now.

you MUST be constant throttle to go any wider. but you're on the right path so far and lookin good

ive noticed that when im steady on the throttle i get wider just have to get use to the speed .thanks for all the good feed back:cheers
