if you switch to synthetic your bike should not run hotter it should run a little cooler.

well this is how you wire it....pretty simple if your looking at the bike and the diagram...

Re: wiring f4i fan: always ON

Even easier than Beto's way is just to unplug the sender cable (thermostat plug on betos drawing) then make a wire up with 1 ring crimp and 1 spade crimp, put spade crimp in the sender wire plug and then put the ring crimp on the ground for the radiatior fan, which is literally just above the fan on the radiator... takes 2 minutes to do, you can get to everything, don't need to chop anything!! and the fan will come on with the ignition....

hope it helps.

Re: wiring f4i fan: always ON

thx for the replies....just read "jcrojas"..'s way in the F4i Thread...

Unhook the wire going into the temp switch on the radiator and unhook the wire that's grounded on the fan mount and shove them together. That's how I have mine.
i used a crocodile cable and connected them...first it started sparking and scared the **** outta me but then i turned off the bike and did it

...works like a charm

my question is that since i used crocodile clips, i still have everything plugged in....is there anything that i should UNplug? (for safety reasons?)

haha yeah, I put mine on a switch b/c sometimes I would go street riding and I would hate to hear that thing running all the time. When you got it on the switch you can turn it on, or if you leave it in the off position, then your fan goes back to stock form and it turns on whenever it hits that certain temperature...

i have kind of the same thing, just not as fancy. its just 2 crocodile clips so i can easily connect/disconnect em.

im gonna take my first street ride today(w/ the fan on), we'll see how bad its gonna be.

btw, where did you get a switch from and where did you mount it?

Re: wiring f4i fan: always ON

any auto parts store will have them, like $2-8 depending on what kind you get....I mounted mine up on the left side of the tank, it had a little hole where the air duct mounted up to, but I dont have air ducts. So I just ran the wires through the hole and wrapped it in electrical tape and one ziptie to hold it steady. It looks decent.

Re: wiring f4i fan: always ON

they are a negative ground system. all you have to do is take a wire, find a good ground, then connect that to a switch, then splice that wire into the ground wire side of the fan. don't remove the thermostat wire, that will work normally.

with this setup when you flip the switch it will ground the fan causing it to be on, and when you turn the switch off it will go back to normal mode so the fan will operate by the thermostat. best of both worlds.

be careful of running the fan on all the time, most bikes don't produce enough power to charge the battery at idle, so running the fan will draw on the battery hardcore. i ruined a battery on my 929 that way.

Re: wiring f4i fan: always ON

ya, it'll get ya every time and that's a 110$ battery you have in there sir. plus if you take out your thermo switch and forget to turn the fan on, you overheat.

just splice into the wire that goes from the fan to the thermo switch, then take that to a switch, then on the other side of the switch take that to a ground point. simple, easy

got me a switch from pep-boys...mounted it with electrical tape on the left lower frame loop.

one end of the switch goes to the ground mounted on the top of the radiator, and the other goes to the fan ground wire (behind the radiator)

if that doesn't make sense....im basically using the radiator as ground.

when the switch is set to on, it connects the ground and fan goes on, when its off, its as if the switch isn't even there so it works normally when it reaches a certain temp.

:YEAH

hell ya buddy, best of both worlds. make sure you don't run it too often doing idle stuff....

i also keep mine on a battery tender at night just in case. i'm not about to kill another 110$ battery out of stupidness

lol

u might like to know that i spent $95 on 8 bolts, 8 studs, and 4 gaskets (header stuff)...pissed the **** outta me

so another $110 would probably drive me to kill myself.

Re: wiring f4i fan: always ON

no offense dirtytoes, but you don't even have bp yet, this mod is useless to you. It's for when you're going 5mph around a lot with your idle cranked up

P.S. full synthetic isn't a good idea
