Re: what is a better truck to put a plow on?

I plowed with a 96 F 250 extended automatic and had little problems with it. Replaced the trans after 5 years, but my buddy who had the same truck with the manual is still runnen strong.

I have plowed with every truck, any chevy 88 and newer have front end problems after a season of plowing (torsion bar front end isn't very heavy duty), Dodge trucks just suck- stay away from those (unless you get a cummins) Ford builds a good truck (I have a 97 powerstroke f250) but pre 99 f250 front ends tend to sag after plowing with it, If you are buying a truck strictly for plowing buy a 92-97 f350 regular cab or a 87 and older Chevy k30, they are very tough and have a straight axel (like every real truck should) When you put a plow on one of those they barely even drop- where the f250 and all 88 and up chevys drop like 6 inches!

I agree with most of the people above. Stay away from dodges, their driveline sucks normally. Put a plow on it and its goona go 2 or 3 times as fast. Id stick with a ford f-250. Id recomend a diesel though. Gotta run a block heater, but the suspension and reliability of a diesel far out wieghs that of a gas f-250. Any more questiosn hit me up on aim.

Re: what is a better truck to put a plow on?

Hemi rocks? I have an 02 dodge fully loaded and i will be the first to tell you the hemi would suck for plowing..1st off for fuel reason's..2nd is they have to much power down low maybe not that big of a problem in little storms but when you use the truck commercial like i do...It will want to plain out spin all 4..I have 02 F-650 wit a 10 foot fisher that I love...I have a 01 dodge wit a cummins 4x4 wit a 8 1/2 fisher..Needless to say the dodge has pulled the f-650 out a few times do to not enough wieght in the rear and I have 3 1/2 yard sander in the ford...But if i were to give addvice about what to get for a personal plow truck it depends on what you wana do with it? Driveways? Main/side streets? Parking lots up to state highway and ****..I would go with a diesel and make sure it's been serviced..They can start alot of problems if not kept up enough...If you plan on doing smaller stuff like driveways..Try to find yourself something older maybe gasoline? Even an older truck will pay itself off with the right amount of snow in a season.

Re: what is a better truck to put a plow on?

Dodge used thinner metal on there frames possibly only on the 1500 but Im pretty shure on the 2500 as well to help with fuel economy, They say for the ram 1500 not to put a plow on it at all..my

Re: what is a better truck to put a plow on?

i plow w/a 1999 ford f-350 extra cab with an 8 foot bed and it feels like a mack truck. good for parking lots but stay away from them little driveways. the only problem i had was the 5.4 triton was a dog.......so i rewired it and added a lil boost to help push and pull all them toys!!!just my 2 cent...good luck
