Handbrake issues!!

Alright guys.I have a Brembo 19x20 master with a 4 piston caliper on my 636.My problem is that it is not that strong-It wont lock up the back wheel with two fingers.I hear all this talk of one finger lock up and that the 4 piston handbrake is super strong but mine feels weak. Now ive bled it a million times trying various different methods making sure that their is absolutly no air in the system-The lever feels rock hard but doesnt lock the back wheel and I have new pads and brake discs and the pads arent contaminated.Im wondering is it the 19x20 master.Any advice would be greatly appreciated as this is driving me crazy. Thanks

Re: Handbrake issues!!

Try letting the pads brake into the rotors, you can't put it on and expect it to work, there are cuts in your rotor that the pads need time to seat in.. if your grabbing all brake and didn't brake the pads in properly you might have fried them trying to make it "lock up". --- re-read your post.. are they BRAND NEW rotors.. or just NEW TO YOU?

Re: Handbrake issues!!

16x18 is ideal for a single caliper setup. The 19x18 and 19x20's are design to work with Dual Front Caliper Setups.

Make sure your bleed the line properly to.

Ya the discs and pads are brand new and they are bedded in properly.what im asking is how strong should my handbrake be because im used to a strong back brake from my mountainbike but I know that it will never be that strong but should at least lock up the back wheel. And the line is definitly bled fully.

Re: Handbrake issues!!

a 13mm is THE best master on a 4-piston IMO. Night & day differance over what you are running now. I sell Magura master & have them in stock. PM me if you want a price. Get this master & you will LOVE YOUR LIFE!!

Re: Handbrake issues!!

did you get fluid on the pads while bleeding your brakes? that will kill brake pads.

+1 Another thing is take the caliper off the rotor and stick something (a spare rotor if you got one or a wrench) between the pads. With the Full Throttle 4 piston setup the bleeder nipple is pointed sideways and doesnt allow all the air to come out. You have to have the bleeder nipple pointing straight up the same way it would be when on the front of the bike. When I first put my bracket on I bled that **** for hours - straight fluid was coming out and no bubbles but it wasnt locking the wheel up. My friend came over and did what I just told you and within minutes had the **** bled properly and 1 finger lockup. And while what Sketchy is saying might be true with a 4 piston I'd think any hb could get it to lockup but the 19x20 is usually used for front brakes while the 16x18 is used for Handbrakes. You should take the 19x20 off and use it for the front and hit up sketchy for a sick deal on the Magura 13mm

+1231 on what Neal said. I have used both set ups that you have and the Magura 13mm is the way to go. But if the 19x20 is bleed properly, you should be able to lock up the rear with a finger (middle for me) but it requires a little more pull than the magura and has less lever travel. I've got the FTI four piston caliper set up.

I love the search. I bleed my caliper for hours no air straight fluid and it wouldnt grab hardly. im going to try this now... im pretty sure it will work cause it all makes sense

Re: Handbrake issues!!

If the lever feels real soft, its air in the system.
If pumping it a couple times makes it get hard (hehehe) then its definitely air in the system.
If its already hard, and it just doesnt work very well, then its usually contaminated pads or rotor.

yea i know how to tell if there is air in the line. but when you bleed your brakes for two hours straight and not air comes out and still doesnt work right then something is up. I did this method and literally not even five minutes I had strong brakes. i took the whole caliper off set it straight up and then some air came out and my brakes were great!

i will usually rotate my HB master cyclinder around too incase theres air stuck in a corner.
