idleing too high

my 1992 CBR 600 idles to high and the idle screw is not even touching. It starts out at about 2100 rpm then warms up and runs at 3000 rpm. Could somebody help me out or lead me to the right direction. The throttle slides are closing but the other slides dont close, is this my problem.

Re: idleing too high

make sure the boot clamps are in the right place and not holding open the throttle assy. The black slide should have a "cut out" or small opening. The brass "butterflies" behind the slide should be extreamly close if not totally closed.

Re: idleing too high

+1 carbs need syncronizing... a specific tool with mercury levels and vacum tubes is needed to do it right...

you can buy this tool, learn to use it and probably never need it again unless you keep a carbed bike for a long time... or you can have a shop do it... sucks but that is your options...

oh, thrid option is to see if a buddy has that tool and wants to hook you up!

you can order one from any shop or online place that sells parts... under Carb syncronizer

it should come with directions on how to use it... you will need a screwdriver to adjust the screws

adjust the outside screws til the left two cyliders match, then the right cylinders match... then use the middle screw to make all 4 match...

play with it a little, you will get the hang of it...

no they go by # of cylinders... you will need a 4-cylider carb sync (come to think of it ive never seen anything BUT 4-cylinder ones...) there might be adapters that come with it for different size vacuum hoses but almost all bikes fit the vacuum lines that the sync comes with

Re: idleing too high

u can buy guages at K&L thru a dealer. get a service manual (maybe somebody will loan u one) when u set the screws first set the idle at 1300 then find the base carb manual will telll u which one it is. then like john said set the others till the needles match. it is easy, but only if u know what u are doin. if not its a bitch and u can make it worse. if u need help hit me up n I'll pm u my #.
