Cool No handed wheelies on a bike??

Well, is it possible to do no handed wheelies like the big boys do on their big boy bikes? I was thinking of building a detachable right handgrip/shifter/lever handlebar for doing that, so I can control the rear brake, and have my hands in the air. I have the balance point, but it is impossible to do with out rear control.

Any ideas??

holdingsomething in your hand would look kinda stupid.... try rigging up a foot brake!!

not possible with out a foot brake, try getting one of those freehubs that have a stop in him so when you pedal backwards it locks the wheel up

its possible with something like he suggested... but itd be silly....

the locking hub idea would work but i think itd be REALLY hard to do it that way.... just work on your balance and do it without a brake... thatd be

Re: No handed wheelies on a bike??

yea, doing the footbrake deal would be quite a feat. I like the hand idea, and yea, it would look kind of odd, but it would work.

Re: No handed wheelies on a bike??

why not put a rear brake control on the frame? that way its not on the bars, and you're not waving some control around in the air.

Re: No handed wheelies on a bike??

i think either way wit no hands holdin on and u hittin the brake....even the littlest bit will make it get off balance the the front wheel is goin down...or either that ur handle bars r gonna go all over the place n **** u up either way.....just wat i was thinkin

Re: No handed wheelies on a bike??

if you want to roll no handed wheelies on a bike, you have to tighten the steering head so the bars dont go off to one side. next step, get a bigger seat. ive seen people with banana seats rock no handed wheelies without any brake through crowds....mounting a frame brake would be retarded as you would have no balance whatsoever with one hand on the frame, you would always be going off to one side....having a high seat helps alot too as the balance point wouldnt be as high so side to side happens slower.

Re: No handed wheelies on a bike??

I used to know a guy that COULD do it. No tricks to the trade, just straight up . Actually he might of had gearing done. He used to be able to ride no-handed down the street doing a barspin the whole time. And the lockinghub idea/rear pedal brake won't work. Think about a bicycle wheelie. You gotta pedal hard and fast to keep a wheel up. By jamming it backwards the crank is A: gonna be hard to reverse that quick and B: If you could, you couldn't just "feather" the brake, it would slam you back to the ground.

Re: No handed wheelies on a bike??

hcaz095 i like your comment. I think that would be the best way of doing it, though I've lost some 12 wheelies really hard, and my ***, back, and head don't feel like smashing against the ground anymore. I need the back brake, at least for now.

The balance point is not the problem, I'm just a ***** for not letting go

Re: No handed wheelies on a bike??

right, but I like to be able to make any adjustments needed, and have the ability to bring the bike back down if I have to, instead of me flipping backward and having the bike land on me.

I've done barspin manuals out of quarter pipes and across the deck. Pinch the seat and lean back

Re: No handed wheelies on a bike??

I've seen it done...although only at 3-4 secondsat a time. This guy in his mid 30's rides a '63 Schwinn Beach Cruizer. He said a huge gain in balance came from putting at least 2 tire liners, and 2-3 tubes of "Tire Slim" sealant to add extra weight to the front tire. I couldn't even bring up his bike to a balance at all since it weighs in at 53 pounds and has only one gear and NO brake levers...just the "Re-wind" brake crank...which I can't figure out how he does it. He can ride wheelies nearly a half mile...but it's crazy to see a Beach Cruizer of that size with fenders and all cruizing along smoothly nearly as long as I can on my 24spd!! I'll see if I can get some footage of him performing it.

yea, it kind of is, cause you can bounce on the suspension a little to keep it up, i had it on my old real mongoose.

Re: No handed wheelies on a bike??

i've tried doing no handers. i've gotten mebbe 20 ft without goin down. ihave gone over backwards and come back down before uptting my hands up and slamed my chest on the bars many a time though. its pretty tough but it can be done. props to the guys that can ride it forever but many people get impressed by just 20ft.
