53 Year Old Learning to Stunt

I'm a long time motorcycle rider from Massachusetts that grew up on bikes. I got into club racing and won amateur races at LRRS CCS racing and dragged my knee at Daytona for a second place in a national. Knee down in the pouring rain to dirt bike racing in the woods and MX track has me qualified to being a full on bike nut. But even with all that credit I have a dream...

I could wheelie decent enough to make my friends think I could ride a wheelie but I never got to the point of really achieving the endless balance point wheelie. My bucket list includes this task so this year I plan on achieving that goal.

Step one is already completed. Purchase a GROM and use it for a pit bike during track days and camper bike.

Step two - Practice on the Grom in remote dead end street that leads to power company sub station. This slightly uphill road is not far from me but has no complaining neighbors.

Step 3 - Practice more! Stick with low speed 1st gear only and get used to rear brake control and resist chopping throttle.

In 5 hours of practice I have gone from short wheelies always chasing them, to 1/10 mile balance point wheelies. I did 1 hour at a time as I don't want to get tired and start making stupid mistakes.

Step 4 - Control directional travel. I now need to practice course correction. I'm finding it difficult to control direction of travel and tend to just go the way the road is sloped or always drift slightly to the left. I'm here to learn the tips on how to control direction while in a wheelie.

Step 5 - Down hill Clutch In Wheelies - No throttle down hill wheelies are awesome. I need to start practicing those and get more rear brake control.

Step 6 - Put it all togeter and get to the point where I only put the front down when I want to put the front down.
