GPR or Scotts stabilizers i love...but i got my GPR for endo's cuz tank slap rolling and endo BLOWS! stay on the gas when you come down from your whoolie and you will have much better success.

Re: 02 954 tank slapper

learn to control the bike better. that's a serious comment to so don't go crying to mommy that i was mean to you.

the honest truth, bikes only tank slap when you do something wrong. when you put it down make sure the front wheel is facing forwards and not tilted lke some dumbass newbs do and you'll be fine. i've only had a few tank slaps from wheelies in my life and i know it was my rider error that caused it.

they won't protect you from everything. one of my former riders got a bad tank slap on his 929 because he came down at a high rate of speed and was crossed up (wheel pointed in wrong direction). it slapped so hard that the ohlins slipped out of the clamp and it twisted his forks in the triples. granted, it would have slapped probably longer without it, but it was still horrible. just make sure to keep a reasonable speed and keep that front wheel inline with the bike.

i would go with scotts (love em) but keepin your wheel straight and rolling on the gas as you come down are just as important!

Any damper is better than none. Especially on the 954, because its known for head shakes. I put a Scotts on my 03 954 and i will NEVER again own a sport bike that doesnt have one. Best $100 bucks i ever spent in my life....=-)

there is a recall on the head bearings. if you have headshake problems with 954 you should check your vin to see if they have been changed out.

and you must have sucked some pee pee pretty good to get one for 100$. they are 498$ new

Yeah, someone mentioned that 2 me awhile back about the 954. But im stupid and have never checked. I ride lots more than i do streets now days anyways. So to me its not really that much of a big deal now. But the Scotts definately stopped that shaking problem. Or atleast i cant feel it anymore thats for sure. 100 bucks, buddy of mine was parting out his track bike. So i just offered the 100 and he said yeah. Had to spend another $45 on fleabay to buy another mounting kit for my stunter. So i can use it on both of my bikes. But yeah about $145 and i got the Scotts with 2 mounting kits, i cant complain....=-)

Re: 02 954 tank slapper

not bad, i hated my scotts...shitty mounting system; mine actually broke and caused me to eat some asphalt right at the 300foot range of a stoppie. i never figured out if the scott's broke causing the problem or if the shake i got caused it to break. either way the scott's failed so i never purchased another one.

i guess i have trust issues.

and ya, you should get that 954 checked out. if it hasn't been recalled then it's free at a dealership.

Yeah i just might do that, since im having more free time lately. Cant complain if its gonna be FREE, hehe...Yeah i'll admit, Scotts mounting system isnt the best. Especially on the 954, beings how close the gas tank bolts are. Almost seems like over time the Scotts could force the tank bolts to strip and come lose. Unless it somehow breaks them off. I had a factory tank bolt break on my 929. Ended up having to ease out the bolt, and that chitc sucks azz....=-)

Re: 02 954 tank slapper

the small 2mm set screws on my scotts were stripped out when i went to take it off after it broke. i ended up having to cut the triple to get the FN thing off.....since then, no way.

i would say wait til winter and then take the bike in during that...but your in LA so i doubt you're gonna get the snow we do in indiana over winter. haha

Yeah ive got me a good set of ease outs and a nice set of metric taps. So in case i break anymore off, i'll be able to fix it pretty easy....Snow, chit we havent has snow since Feb 5, 1988....I'd trace all 4 of my bikes for a state with snow in the winter, LMAO.....=-)

the dealer you went to is tugging your monkey. honda recalls are good for the life of the vehicle. if it hasn't been performed on your VIN then they have to do it, no matter how long it's been. it's a safety factor and liability issue for them...hence the recall. and the recall wasn't until late 03, so if you tried in 04 that was less than a year so there DEFINATELY shoudln't have been a problem.

ya, i have all that wonderful stuff from being a bike mechanic....but ever try to easy out a 2mm set screw? it's retarded. i like the gpr mounting system better if i had to choose between the 2.
