A question for the gsxr pimps!

I have been trying to learn 12's on my 02 gsxr 1000 for a while now. I went out tonight and practiced for a bit and my rear brakes faded out until I had almost no brake left at all. My question is do you guys have this problem? Is it normal or was I just overdoing it? Just so you know I am practicing in a school parking lot, I wheelie one direction and then back making a large circle. There is very little down time between wheelies.

Gixxers are the hardest bikes to tweleve, did you start with new pads? If so, damn. I am still working with the stockies. Matbe let them cool down after a bit. Good Luck and let me know if you get them!

I would definetly get a stainless braided line if you don't already have one.

Stock Suzuki brake pads absoluetley SUCK. Go with some HH's and go to town. I have stock lines on my 750 with HH's and I've never yet had them fade on me

how much brake do you "ride" when you 12.........sounds like you might be on the brake too much.........don't use the brake so much to slow down just get the bike higher, you want to get the bike up REAL high REAL fast right of the start to keep from picking up any speed........GSXRs throttle response (especially the 1000) are very touchy and its twice as bad if you have any kind of speed in 1st gear. turning your idle up is a MUST too.........it helps smooth things out alot but you'll have to ask Mellen how he rigged up an idle adjustment on the '02.
I still have stock brake lines but I use HH pads.
hope it helps....just keep practicin'

I just got my 02 750 and I removed the stock idle screw and replaced it with the 96-99 cable that they made for the idle adjustment. Real easy swap out and you don't have to spend hours tryin to figure out how to rig somethin up.

02' 1000

Props on 12in the Gixxer......an idle adjustment is a must. You can either do what Jay said, or get an idle adjustment cable from a 900rr (like I did) and just get it welded to your idle screw...it works just fine.
What gearing are you running?? You GOTTA gear it alot.....12in' a 1000 on stock gearing is way too difficult to learn on.

PS......

I have 5000 miles on my bike....I replaced the stock pads about 500 miles ago with another set of stock pads....they work just fine. If your brakes are fading that bad it sounds like your just riding it too hard so its heating it up......you could get different pads/lines/fluid.....or just do what Mark said!!!

Thanks everyone for all the advice. I have been able to scrape my bar with just 2 up in the rear and also 2 down and 2 up. It was much easier with the 2 down and 2 up. I want to run the 15 in the front and 46 in the rear. I have had no success in finding a 46 sprocket that will allow me to stay with the stock chain. Everything I have found is for the 425 conversion. Are you guys getting your sprockets off the internet or from a local shop? What gears are you running on the 1000?

gears

I'm 3/2....mark is 3/6. If you want bigger sprockets in the rear you gotta go to SprocketSpecialists.com. 6 up in the rear fits the stock chain if you are 3 down in front

Later, Mellen

Good question, also do you ride around town with your idle turned up all the time or do you turn it up and down just to do slow stuff?

RPM

It depends on what I'm doing.....if I am just 12ing I keep it right at 4,000 RPM.....if I want to take my throttle hand of its gotta be about 4,500-5,000.
I keep it at about 1,700 RPM to do cliffhangers and apehangers, that way it keeps running at a nice pace to keep the bike moving foward when its on the bar.
PS....I dont know if anyone told you guys yet but keep your oil level just PAST the top of the window (just a thought).

Re: A question for the gsxr pimps!

yea i need to get a 99 idle screw also, we did it on my friends 03 750 and it worked out well. im finally at the area of scraping.. few more inches and i will hit .. get it up fairly quick.. speedo says bout 15mph when i get it to the final dip point before scraping, put the bar on and the cage, i barely use any brake either. 1st gear on my bike with -1 +10 sprocket setup. 03 gsxr 750.. if u have a couple extra let me know
