Titles and Frames

Titles and Frames
Has anybody used a different title for a frame they bought that didn't have a title? For instance a 99 r6 title for a 2001 gsxr frame. I just want to be able to get a license plate and ride it on the streets.

titles and frames stay together, and the vin #'s are property of the government

Re: Titles and Frames
cor if you run around with diffrent number's your vin number will not match your plate number's.
You would be then in theory ringing a vehicle which is illegal you can use a number plate from another bike as long as it is not newer than your plate now and you would have to register it to your frame number.

don't do it ........
if you ever get pulled over and the cop happens to be a bike guy he will know it's not a yamaha and best case you will get busted for attaching tags [felony i beleive] and you could get your bike impounded with no way of getting it back because you have no proof of ownership for the gsxr vin # and you may even be charged with grand theft ...

Re: Titles and Frames
yo here in cali cops rarely check the vin#,and the more custom looking the bike the harder it is to tell what make or model it is,but like old man roger said " dont do it", it would be easier and less risky to find a titled frame on e bay for $400-1000 , and as long as its similiar you are golden, for instance i have a 03 gsxr that came with scraped vin# from a tow yard (theft recovery) then found a salvage title frame for $350 and bam now it is a titled bike.good for a lot bike but to road it i would have to get it inspected at c.h.p. (no thanks)

Re: Titles and Frames
KTFO is a moron just cause a bike has a diff title then the frame doesnt mean it is stolen. I have a different frame year color then the title i basically took a wrecked bike and built it with parts i had most years are overlapping with motors and other such parts. The color can be changed of a bike in an hour with different plastic if you buy a new frame from factory it comes with no title or vin so purchasing one or using the old one is a must. If you want to change the vin numbers you can restamp it with a steel stamp kit found on ebay for 30 bucks that does letters numbers and different sizes. This post is old but KTFO kinda pissed me off with his stolen comment. There is alot of motorcycles with salvage titles and parts out there and some of use do put them back together.
