Are you a mechanic ?
Re: Are you a mechanic ?
Something not alot of people have prob. heard of Im a certified healthcare mechanic. I work in engineering at my local hospital and work on everything that is in a hospital and around it that involves the hospital but phones, cable and computers. Pay is way better than a auto machanic. I also do alot of fabrications for off road and stunting.
Re: Are you a mechanic ?
good mechanics are the most underpaid people in the world.if they had good business skills and worked for themselves, they would be rich.8.00hr vs 60.00+ .imo computer diagnosis = crap.guys who are good can generally get by without.

Re: Are you a mechanic ?
Graduated fro the ASSET Program (joint venture between Ford and local colleges) in 1991 with ASE Master Tech cert, and an AA in Automotive Technology. :YEAH
When i graduated, the guys that trained me when I was in school and working in the Dealership where clearing any where from 60,000 t0 150,000 a year. That **** quickly dried up within 5 years of me graduating. Between lack of customers, bad customer relations, and The manufacturers like FORD cutting back all their labor times ar causing a lot of the guys i know to really struggle to make a good income. The first few years I was out of school, everyone had a couple wave runners, race cars, boats, or were moving into bigger houses.
Now I go back to visit and they are all sitting around reading magazines
After working in quite a few dealerships, and seeing how FORD treats the the only qualified people to fix their cars (which have doubled in cost but yet techs are still making the same as 15 years ago), I left and went to work for First Vehicle Services ( A company that is hired by municipalities to maintenance their fleets) I serviced Sheriff's vehicles for Broward Sheriff's Office. Learned some good stuff about strobes and such and got ASE Master certified in Heavy Truck. Stayed there for abou 3-4 years and went to CARMAX.
CARMAX is an EXCELLENT company to work for and highly recommend it for any tech. I din't know anything about anything except Ford's but the guys there were very cool and everyone helps each other out.
As I am now 40 and do not want to be wrenching when I am 60, one of the guys I ride with told me about and Automotive Instructor position opening up at the local Community College where he runs the Automotive Facility. When i went ove rfor interview, I found out it pas part-time, but they told me that the high school that was located in the front of their building was looking for an Instructor. Any way the high school pays me more than I was making at CARMAX and i only work about 200 days a year
i was off all last week, and all next week, then i got a week during spring break and the whole summer off

Re: Are you a mechanic ?
I started as one at 18. Graduated from UTI's auto program. Worked at a Ford, Jeep, Jaguar, Nissan dealer for 3 or 4 years. Went to Toyota for 6 months. Went to GM for better pay for 6 months. Now I work at Wetzel Ford/Mercury in Richmond, IN. Had to move here from Illinois so my girlfriend could be closer to her family while shes pregnant. Flat rate pay sucks just as bad here as it did in Illinois by the way. Whole shop is dead, I've turned 2 hours so far this week. Ive been on the internet for the last 2 hours today.
Re: Are you a mechanic ?
I voted the top option, but I don't work as a mechanic anymore. Got sick of it. kinda like working on bikes alot more these days, yet still have a coupla car projects on the go
Re: Are you a mechanic ?

Re: Are you a mechanic ?
since there are some mechanics in here i have a question id appreciate if it be anwsered.
i have a 1993 mitsubishi 3000gt sl and when i shift from 4 to 5th gear or anytime i put it into 5th gear the gear shifter starts to rumble, seeming as if it is about to jump out of gear. what could the problem be?

Re: Are you a mechanic ?
whats wrong with a 3000gt...great cars homie
Re: Are you a mechanic ?
honestly, I don't have a good answer for you with that... it's really hard to diagnose something without experiencing it unless it's a typical problem or a very blatant symptom...
I was trying to aim in directions I know, but hey, no one knows it all... sorry, wish I could have helped you with that one...
umm... you said it's ONLY in fifth? no other gears?
