sprocket for DRZ400SM??
Re: sprocket for DRZ400SM??
do you think changing your sprockets will make you mono better?
changing sprockets is only good for slowing stuff down, if your having trouble changing into 3rd with standard gearing, you will have the same trouble changing into 4th with lower gearing, both will be at the same speed

I thought i needed to change gearing to but you dont.
Try going 30-35mph in 3rd clutch it up . shift to 4th or clutch it up in 4th standing up at about 40-45mph. All stock gearing. Hope that helps

Re: sprocket for DRZ400SM??
dropping teeth in front and gaining teeth in the rear will increase torque makeing it easier to lift the front end. when it all comes down to it its not the bike its the rider. and if you still have Q's about gearing, go out side and steal your sisters, brothers, or even neighbors 10 spd bicycile and ride it around switching through the gears. its the same damn principal.
Re: sprocket for DRZ400SM??
...gearing gives you more low end torque, that ain't gonna help much on the highway. if you gear your ****, your gonna be going slower in a given gear at a given RPM than stock gearing... i hear the drzsm is kinda a dog on the highway so the last thing you want to do is go bigger in the rear or smaller up front, for highway wheelies. Just like Niner said, thumpers (single cyl. 4 stroke) like to be clutched up at low RPMs. So either shift into 4th at that speed and clutch it up...prolly have to bounce it too and try that? or if you want to change your gearing, try going up a few in the front... that way you'll be at a lower RPM in third gear at 65 or whatever speed you want.
Re: sprocket for DRZ400SM??
stock should be fine but if you cant do it then -1 in the front should be all you need. maybe my honda 450 might be difrent but i was able to get it up in 3rd at about 35-45mph with a stock front and a 40 rear
