I want to put a big s sproket on my ride but every once in a while i would like to roll on the highway. I would like to have two sprokets a big one and a smaller one whats the biggest i can go with out having to mess with the chain when i put the smaller one on.

 

well, you might as well compromise, go like +2 in the back and drop one in the front, if you never want to mess with the chain, but any bigger and you are going to have to insert links

 

I went 1 down in the front and 2 up in the back, its awesome . . . My bike has awesome low end torque and better high end HP, and I can slow wheelie without clutching it . . . its awesome . . .

 

you could prolly go -1 +2 on a 750 and it would let you still do highways stuff but give you alot more torque.

i went up 3 in the back (that would roughly be the same as down 1 in the front) Man can i feel the diffrence!!

having a 'huge' sprocket and 'smaller' sprocket and trying to rotate them based on the type of riding your doing is quite a process and your best bet is to find some sort of compromise..

this is because, when changing from big/small (or vice versa) you will need to adjust your chain, witch may include adding/removing links... and adding/removing links at-will is not really something your going to be wanting to do (for life of chain, and the time it will take)..

basically, it's just too difficult to arrange this and would be very costly in the long run..

and the biggest 'differnence' you will be able to go without doing anything to the chain is MAYBE 1-2 teeth..

 

its all mathematics..a lot of people get all crazy with the sprocket....divide the number of teeth on the front into the number of teeth in the back and you get a number..that is the ratio to 1...for instance you got 17 tooth front and 42 rear(gsxr1000) 4 down and 4 up is now 13 front and 46 rear that ratio is 3.54 to 1..that means the front spins 3.54 times before the back spins once...now another go goes and buys a 60 tooth rear sproket and must also buy a longer chain..guess what his ratio is if he is running the 17 tooth front..it is 3.52..basically the same....so just grap a calculator and play with the numbers...you can keep that stock chain and get a different ratio....NO MORE NEED FOR SPROCKET THREADS

 

I'm -2 +6 on my F3. I can still ride highways...you're just at a higher rpm. The motor was made to rev to hell and back so all you are hurting is the gas mileage...who cares.

but i dont think they make frt sprockets -4
and i doubt that you will fit a stock chain with -4+4
i have a 750 with -1+4 and to drop 3 more teeth down in the front i dont think my chain would strecth out that much

I just went -1, +5 and am loving it, havnt topped out the bike but today I hit over 110 and that was in 5th i think. So I bet it still can hit maybe 120. Real great set up...
