So I clutch up my 600RR going about 10mph and get on or near the balance point. i'm working the throttle and the brake but over all I am constantly accelerating. So whats the trick to keeping wheelies at a constant speed. Am I not quite at the balance point? I think my problem is I brake to much and then have to trottle up to get it back. Really want to get some long highway wheelies in before I have to put my bike in for the winter.

 

if your trying to slow em down, turn you idle up a little bit, like 3500-4000rpms, that way you dont have to use the throttle once your up and balanced, just use the rear brake to keep it smooth. If your on and off the throttle, the bike gets real choppy.

 

What does slowing them down have to do with long highway wheelies?

 

And please don't fall with your RR...it would break my heart

 

Was wondering the same thing? Highway wheelies are done in 2nd and third gears, not 1st

oh then you don't need to slow them down, what you need to do is find your balance point, once you hit your balance point you'll even feel the bike slow down, but in reality it just keeps the same speed it caught when it reached the balance point. For example, if you reach your balance point at 40 mph you'll be able to maintain that speed as long as you don't loose the BP.

 

you shouldn't be hitting brake then throttle, it's all done it one smooth motion, brake and throttle same time

 

alright, i do some of my highway **** in 1st gear on my 600rr. i can slow them down on it with no problem, it is a pimp bike for wheelies, to slow it down just bring it back past the balance point a little and ease on the brake. i dont usually dont have to use the brake allot on this bike if i just want to maintain a constant speed,cause it has allot of engine brake cause it turns so many rpms. but always cover the brake, i preach that to my friends that are just learning.

 

I'm still getting balance point wheelies on lock also, I fade in and out of the balance point, but don't stay there consistantly.

In the event that I do manage to get balanced for a 1/2 mile or so, it's ususally around 85 mph. 10 mph, or even 20 mph, at this point would probably be beyond my relm till I get the trick locked in better. The slower you are going, the higher you are going to have to be, and the more suttle your throttle control will have to be. I can get a 1st gear stand up, no problem, but I start at about 30...
