Hey Guys,

I'm new here and am probably going to go back to lurking after this post. But I was wondering. I've been riding for 2 seasons now and have taken the safety course and the Kawasaki High Performance Riding Academy (track riding). I'm moving across the country soon and after the move plan on getting a new bike. It's down to the 636 or the GSXR750. Currently i ride a Ninja 500R so both wheels are always on the ground. With the new bike I am going to start small of course but am interested in doing some of the basics, wheelies/stoppies etc. (Not to say that those things are basic or easy, but i doubt i'll be doing more intricate & difficult tricks). So naturally with the new bike im concerned about dropping it. I've looked at MDX, FI, SI cages and they all look good. I'm worried though about clearance for twisties etc. Which cage in your opinion could help protect the bike from a drop from trying wheelies but will not prevent me from dragging some knee on the back roads ?

Next question. With most these cages what besides the cage contacts the ground? and is there anything else i can do to prevent that contact?

Sorry if these are noob questions. I've read allot of forums and they covered who likes what cages better etc but I'm not going to be stunting near as hard. So i figured id ask anyway.

SI all the way for clearance.well for everything. Theres a pic on here somewhere of a guy at track day draggin low with a SI cage and 12 bar. mabe someones got it.

What makes contact if you lay it down, or what makes contact if you actually crash it in a stunt? Those are two different things. You are going to break something and/or scratch your bike some time. No sense in asking that question.

 

Powers race railz and subcage. Just don't be watching for the delivery guy.

 

bad avice, no one should go with powers if they actually need their product in a timely/reasonable time frame

out of curiosity did he have a full cage that wrapped underneath or one of the two point side ones?

Yeah I was thinking for contact for a drop/slide, I realize coming down from stunting is going to be a whole other story.

Im thinking the crash cage/sub cage/bar ends would get the most contact if i had a subcage, otherwise, crash cage/bar ends/tail section.

Powers doesn't look like bad stuff, and i cant say im in a rush so if it's good i wont mind waiting. Were you talking like month 1/2 or more ?

I think their getting better.I ordered a subcage last tues and it shipped the next day.

It was for an r6 though. So honda **** still might take a min.

It took me 3 mths to get my race railz and sub cage from powers.

 

SI cage you can still hit turns without any problems with still the full protection that a cage will offer

but you do have to cut a lil hole in the bottom of your fairings for loop/bar

if you wanna mess with powers and dont mind the wait go ahead
but be warned
