f4i help question

Ok so i know im not supose to drop my bike but tonight i did. Now when the bikes in neutral if i let out the clutch it dies like its in gear, and if i put it in first it still dies when i let the clutch out. Is it the adjustment or what?

hummm,,,it dies when its in neutral??? sooo when yer bikes in neu you start it and pull the clutch in to put it first then it dies???

YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO DO THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!


sounds like the clutch safety switch, its either unplugged or bad.... CHECK IT!

hmmm ...thats strange. the clutch doen't need to be pulled in to start in neutral...just when its in a gear. So it will start in neutral..then when you pull in the clutch it dies? Thats wierd!

the bike will only start in neutral. it was like that when i bought it, i have no idea why. its not really a problem. but yeah i have to pull in the clutch even in neutral to start it but i can let it out after it starts and it pulls like its in gear and then dies. i can drop it in to gear but it dies just as it starts to pull. It was the left side so i'll check that clutch safty switch. where is that located?

Just connect the two wires that are closest to the clutch. That bybasses the saftey switch all together. Then you know the switch is never the problem.

sounds like it might be the kickstand switch.



as far as having to be in neutral to start, just jump the nuetral switch to ground. It's on the left side of the motor, just above the kickstand but under the front sprocket. It's a single wire that connects to a little nipple sticking out of the case. Pull it off and ground it to the frame. Then you can start in gear, but your gauges will always show you are in neutral.

the clutch safety switch in on the clutch pirch.... its 2 wires, disconnect them.

I had to remove the switch and grind down the side of the pirch to fit up my first hand brake..... I didnt have to ground them or anything. If this doesnt fix the problem my next guess would be the kick stand switch, i just dont see how that would get fucked up.

I can email you a PDF file of the factory Honda shop manual for this bike, there is usually a trouble shooting guide for this problem in there..... it should tell you which one is bad. I dont have Adobe on this PC so i cant open the file.

I guy I ride with had his kickstand switch get bent back to where it wasn't fully closing after a crash

i guess if the kick stand comes down when the bike is doing cart wheels and it lands on it...... hmmmmm interesting.... well, like I said, you cant rule it out....

well ive elimated the the kick stand swith and ive got it to where i will start in gear. but something is still wrong. even in neutral it still dies out when i let the clutch out. also if the bike is off and in gear i cant pull in the clutch and spin the back tire although it will in neutral. my friend says i need clutches. does that sound right to u guys?

yeah man...it allowed me to start it in gear but the ****** still aint right. its driving me crazy. it does a easy pull clutch could it be something in that?

So the motor runs as long as you are holding the clutch, but dies when you let go? Do you mean it dies like the motor is being bogged out?

If so it could be something is busted in your clutch or transmission

the easy pull would not have anything to do with it.

unplug the switch that is on the clutch pirch!

if you cant pull the clutch in when the bike is OFF, that is a strong indication that you need a new clutch basket. The fiber plates have made grooves in the the ears of the basket from constant dumping of the clutch. the tabs on the fiber plates get in those grooves and cant slide in and out as you pull the clutch in. I believe honda had a recall on the clutch pivot piece that the cable attaches to on the side cover.... they were breaking. my buddys broke on his 2000 929. check that aswell.

i can pull the the clutch in without any problem. I dont have any plugs on the pirch.

What do wires have to do with his bike not rolling in gear with the clutch pulled in?

I think its mechanical problem, not wiring

i agree. Im bout to give up and take it to the shop. towlieees right it cant be electrical as far as the wheel not freeing up when the clutch is pulled. i did ground the wires shky4 was talking about. he was saying "no" i dont need clutches

sounds like something with your clutch is stuck, (in gear with the clutch pulled in) try rolling it backwards and forwards a little a see if you can jossle it back into place
