 | Why do piercings smell?? Okay, I have my ears guaged moderatly at a 4 g. Why in the hell do they stink?? I take my plugs out and wash them and wash my ears in the shower everyday and they still smell! What the hell!!  So I asked one of my friends that has A LOT of piercings and he said its just normal...that his do too. Ask several others and they all say the same. Why does this happen and how can you prevent it???  |

| Re: Why do piercings smell?? It's probably bacteria.......same thing why your armpits smell. Just a guess....but makes sense. I remember seeing someone saying they use Bactine or something to keep the holes cleaned out, might give that a try

I was talking to this one doctor and he was saying when people piece their tongues that is allowing bacteria to propgate in places you can't really clean. It becomes a festering and breeding ground for different organisms and them they just spread to your entire mouth cavity. Then also goes down your throat as the person is swallowing more than the usual bacteria causing the entire throat and mouth to reek horribly of stench.

| Re: Why do piercings smell?? Your kinda all right... but... your missing one disgusting factor... A large amount of what you are smelling is YEAST that has collected in the piercing. Much like the instruction for (hippy shit) capturing yeast in nature... the moist evironment created by the piercing essentially is the perfect yeast catcher. Kinda weird I know.. No, it's not possible to get a yeast infection in a piercing. Your ears most likely will not ever stop doing this... I am at 1" in the lobes and it still happens... if anything it's worse. My septum is at 0g and stopped doing it years ago...none of the other piercings that I have ever had have done it. |
