Doberman or Rottweiler????

Simple question. Which dog would you get out of the 2. I want a good guard dog but also want a dog good with kids since i have 2. Am really torn between the 2 and which would be better. Give me the pros and cons if you know or if you have personal experience with either 1.

Re: Doberman or Rottweiler????

pitbulls are the best all around dog IMO, they're super loyal to their owners and are intimidating enough to pass as a guard dog. in your case though i'd go with the rott.

I would go with a dobe simply because they are more intelligent dogs.

Re: Doberman or Rottweiler????

If you want the best guard you have to get the most incredibly vicious and furious protective pit bull ever, one you can leave on your bike and he will maul any stranger that comes close. The BEST.

just kidding, get a dobberman if it's between those two.

Re: Doberman or Rottweiler????

Rotts IMO are prob not the best choice to be around kids due to the fact my uncle had one that bit his stepson out of the blue for coming to close to my uncle. I guess that could happen with any dog but this is the only dog i have know that has done it and i havent heard anything bad about dobermans.

Ummm.. did i say in my post that rott's were horrible vivcious animals that would slaughter him and his family while they sleep? no. I just stated that the the doberman breed is one of the most intelligent breed of dog there is, in the top three if I remember correctly. I have nothing aganinst rotts at all. I simply awnsered the question he was asking about which breed I would choose and why. Take a fucking chill pill!

Re: Doberman or Rottweiler????

deffinately rotts... im on my 3rd one. best dogs in the world IMO.. first one was 150lbs, and the most loveable dog ever, and very protective when need be. My dog now is about 90 lbs and a fuckin sissy hahha. but still very loveable, wouldnt hurt a fly.

Re: Doberman or Rottweiler????

And you must start with a pup, your never gonna be sure with a grown dog, I had an English Mastiff as a rescue dog, he was 13 stones now thats a big mutt!!! and he was great, real big softy with grown ups, the fact was he got teased by kids (got made to live in an old car in the front garden) so you had to be real careful, and he hated bikes!!!! But that was not the dogs fault.
I love both dogs, but I always like the doppy ones so it would be the Rotty for me.

Re: Doberman or Rottweiler????

It is all in the training. Any dog can be viscious, any dog can make a good guard dog, and any dog can be good around kids. It is finding a happy medium that matters. I say Doberman is the way to go. The ones that I have had have done quiet well and as a matter of fact, we even use Doberman's at work. Rotts are to large and heavy. They have stoping power but are not nimble. The doberman is the happy medium there

Re: Doberman or Rottweiler????

the only thing i dont like about rottis is they tend to drool with loose jaws and shed a lot. im going to look at a doberman breeder this weekend and check some dobi's out but rotti's are not completely out of the picture. any other big dogs that are good guard dogs?
