question about hampsters.

Ok my girl has two hampsters and they were at her grams house. Well last night her sister brought them to our new house.

I went to see them and noticed there was only one so I looked around and noticed the other one on top of it eating him.

What the fuck?

Is that normal?

Did the other one die like a week ago and it started eating it?

It had pleanty of food why the fuck would it eat the other one?

If I known they did that I wouldn't of had her get them for the kids

Re: question about hampsters.

i knew that hampsters would eat the babies when they were born if they were weak or dead but for it to eat another fully grown hampster it must have been pretty fuckin hungry, feed the damn thing

my 301st post I have nooo life!

hamsters are mean as hell. I have had many and they can be nice but can be vicious as well....

And the cage to me seemed like it was too small to house 2. They fought over territory.

In pet shops, they change the bedding out daily to prevent smell. This in turn prevents the hamsters from establishing any territory.

Your "person" left them in the cage for periods to where they'd scent their areas based off dominance.

what happened then was the other needed to eat and drink but the cage being so small prevented it from happening due to the other stronger, more aggresive rodent.

Just like in the wild. They try to set up shop where the most resources are.

hamsters are solitary creature and NOT social.

So the one set up its base at the resources.

next, by the sound of it, they again, if the cage is filthy, will set up territory. Keeping it clean prevents it.

So now, if you noticed it a week later that the other was dead, I am almost possitive bro that that cage was filthy as hell and they were fighting over who gets to live in the area of food and water.

You think they have food but in reality they don't. They tend to shell all the seeds, etc. So it looks like a bunch of food in the bowl but its nothing but hulls, shells, unedible peices, etc.

So I believe the territory issue, the filthy enclosure, and starvation led to this...

Hey, you wanted honesty rght?

thats what i did want to hear. the cage was filthy, but i could careless not my pets just some thing i dont want the kids to see that kinda shit. we been moving into our new place and her gram said she will take care of them. well a week or so goes by we get them and i look in there to find the other one eating the fuckers head. so yeah we let the thing go in the back yard and burried the other one. needless to say we told the kids they had to go back to grams.

thanks,

oh so you let it get its freedom to die by the mouth of some scavenger, lol...

Dude, if you go rodents, I say GO RATS. They are FAR more sane, tame, and not as sketchy.

Not mice though, they get a bit freaked if you hold them, etc. You can do it but their nervous as hell. Get a young feeder rats for snakes and I can say to get bit the thing has to be injured and dying.

They are also smart as hell. Man, when i was a kid i got some to fetch pencils for damn seeds.

I drove my parents looney but had 200 rats in enclosures i built and had my fav's out of it. I also had reptiles so feeding was a part of the program but in my experience over the many fukkin yrs, I PREFER rats to any other rodent. Much more manageable. PLus you can get rid of it if you need to a guy who needs one for his reptiles. Sad but you can. Most of the guys kill them humanely and then feed them off. That way the pet isn't dying after it had a good life.

But overall, if i had kids and wanted them to have a little critter, ferrets, hamsters, mice, chinchilla, etc. A regular ol rat is by far the most tame, cheap, and easiest to care for man....

He can live alone or with another, just avoid male/female unless you want millions. Mice will kill the newcomer in their same territorial enclosure.

Go rat dude..
