Re: HDMI cable???

There is a very minute difference. They are saying firewire will be faster, not that USB won't work. Neal can't make it work at all. That has nothing to do with not having Firewire. Most things have gotten away from firewire because it's not included on most motherboards. External CD burners, HDs, HD cases, etc. are almost exclusively USB now. This wasn't the case even 3 years ago.

Dude, this is what you wrote:

I'm just simply showing you that what you wrote wasn't accurate. It's NOT non-existent technology and it is used quite often for Video transfer as well as External HD's. I have a Seagate External HD that utilizes USB 2.0 and looking back on it I wish I would have just bought one that has Firewire. But when I download video from my camera I use my firewire port and it's definitely faster.

Re: HDMI cable???

I just had to run into Best Buy for work. I checked every video camera they had. 3 utilize firewire. The rest use USB 2.0. It is almost non-existant. What I said is accurate. He doesn't need firewire, USB 2.0 is theoretically faster, and hardly anybody uses it any more.

Either way, Neal doesn't need to buy a different camcorder. He just needs to learn how to use what he has.

Hardly anyone uses it b/c they DON'T need it. If you are big into editing, you buy firewire and a firewire capable camera. If you are just like most of us that like to dump some video footage onto your comp using a pretty ok camera then USB 2.0 works great and does MORE than enough. Firewire is not "non-existent" technology, it's tech-specific. All the big name brands won't put Firewire on a middle of the road camera b/c it doesn't interest normal buyers, it only interests higher end people... so they put it on high end cameras.

But you are right, Neal doesn't "NEED" firewire but the way he was explaining his "HD" setup and wanted things to be in "HD" I suggested Firewire and HD compatible software.

Re: HDMI cable???

Well I stayed up til 4 in the morning yesterday fuckin with this shit. I downloaded a trial version of Sony Vegas Pro 2.0 which has editing capabilities for HD & AVCHD which is how this camera records I guess. I was able to get the video into the editing program which was good. But I tried entering the serial numbers from the keygen after and it deaded the program So now I have to figure that out. Also, before that I figured out how to use the Sony software that came with the camera a little and converted the video to mpeg which at that point it opened in Studio although I still wasnt able to edit it for whateever reason. It opened in the program but the images were upside down I know I'll figure this shit out but Im sure Im gonna wish I bought something easier to use.

No, there is not a conversion for it but you can buy certain types of hubs. It's expensive, and stupid.

This is a high end camera which is whats confusing me. I fucked up buying it. I did research and it talked about how good of a camera it was and blah blah blah. I didnt realize that there was so much involved in editing HD shit and like I mentioned above, I'm not trying to put out dvd's or anything like that - I just wanted a good camera.

From what I'm seeing, you gotta have HD editing software or convert the images into a readable format. I'll fuck with it more over the weekend and see what happens. I just wanted a camera to record my squid wheelies and my friends squid wheelies

HAHAH.. read post #11 dude, could have saved you some grief

As for the firewire, I thought your camera was pretty high end b/c you said that in your first post, but I guess I don't understand how new the camera is b/c you said you bought it a couple weeks ago but when someone told you to return for a Sony w/FireWire capabilities you said you've had the camera too long to return it? Most cameras have like a 60 - 90 return period.

But even so, I should have edited my post stating that even not all high end cams have firewire, you have to be looking for that feature specifically. Personally, I only use FireWire to capture... it's faster in my opinion.

Ive had the camera for about a month. The companies return policy is 14 days And the camera itself is relatively new. It just came out this year. Its a hybrid camera that records to both the hard drive (120gb) and you can also use the flash memory cards. And you can record in both HD and standard so I think I'll try to record in standard and see what happens then. I just wanted a good camera but I think I went too high end for my knowledge on editing and technology n shit. Fuck it tho. As long as I get it I'll be happy :YEAH

Going out and buying a firewire camera is not going to help. He still won't be able to do anything with the video.
