Gas Guzzla vs Sports premium guzzla

I was thinking about getting rid of my 4x4 SUV which is a HUGE gas guzzler.

About $130/wk in gas.

But I thought about a 350z, although made for a small woman or man, and not for me 6'3 280lbs, it'd be fun and get beter gas.

But then I thought, damn, the price of super unleaded is almost equal to having a gas guzzler in the long run in terms of price.

So does this sound right? They are both equivalent technically?

If so, fugg it, I'll keep my sights on a new bike...

This is what I grabbed. I also, actually moreso, considering a G35. They are "sportscars" with a higher compression. Its a V6 just like a porsche, you never see those with 87 octane. Ya know? Its the same concept in my eyes. I could be wrong though.

Check out these posts from another site..... I thought the little v6 was high compression and needed it to run properly. Like my SUV. It states 87 octane. but if I put super, it fuggs up my oxygen sensors, and the computer ignition, etc.

So I have to stick with it.

I thought that with a little sporty car it'd need it.

I didn't think the 350Z would be the katana or the sports car world.

------------------------------------

my brother just bought a 06 G35 coupe' its NASTY got some serious balls. he puts the cheapest gas he can find in it, i mean the stuff the wont even lite a charcol grill.

-----------------------------

I found these statistics, from a head to head test, in Automobile Magazine. The Infinity happens to be the fastest and cheapest. That's 5.8 sec for the G35, compared to 6.5 for the CTS, both with manual trans. Also, just out of curiosity, does the Cadillac come standard, with a limited slip differential, like the G35?. I couldn't find any mention on the Caddy website, that it does.:

BMW 330i

Price (base/as tested): $36,750/$42,865

Engine: 3.0 L I-6, 255 hp, 220 lb-ft

0-60: 6.1 sec

Cadillac CTS

Price (base/as tested): $33,135/$37,950

Engine: 3.6 L V-6, 255 hp, 252 lb-ft

0-60: 6.5 sec

Infiniti G35

Price (base/as tested): $30,750/$34,360

Engine: 3.5 L V-6, 298 hp, 260 lb-ft

0-60: 5.8 sec

---------------------------------

Depends on the car, like the guy with the S/C buick. Anything with high horsepower/turbo/supercharger should run on highest octane fuel for bigger combustion=piston moving faster downwards=more power. My friends STI can't tun on anything lower than 91, he goes to sunoco's 94 octane gas. His STI can loose as much as 25 hp if he uses something lower than 91: that's an 8.3% in power reduction.

----------------------------------------

That doesn't have to do with horsepower or the speed of pistons...the Supercharge buick and your buddies Subaru need premium because higher octane can handle higher compression which will reduce/eliminate detonation before spark.

---------------------------

And as far as octane goes, higher octane = lower energy content. You want to run the LOWEST octane your engine can run without detonating or pulling timing.

Higher octane with everything else held the same is worse because it's lower energy so you lose mileage AND power. However, higher octane enables you to run higher compression (or higher boost, which is the same thing) without detonating, which more than makes up for the loss in energy. That's why premium tends to mean higher performance.

However, if your engine doesn't take advantage of the detonation resistance, you're worse off all around. The situation is a little tricky for cars that say they can run on both, because they're pulling timing advance when the lower octane makes it knock, so you run lower power (same with cars that lower boost for lower octane). In that case you'd want the lowest octane that kept you from dropping boost or pulling timing, which would be premium.

But you never ever want more octane than is absolutely necessary.

Re: Gas Guzzla vs Sports premium guzzla

Im not sure but I think in the 350Z you have to use like 91 octane or higher.

Re: Gas Guzzla vs Sports premium guzzla

youre 6'3 and 280??? DAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN

but if you think 350z is small.. any bmw coupe will feel smaller trust me on that one.

if you want a big roomy car that you would be comfortable in and thats not 2 embarassing to drive around.. a crown victoria! hands down hella reliable.. not bad on gas at all unless you get one with really high miles.. and theyre just sick! i was driving one for a few days when my car broke down a year back and i loved it.. if you have a friend who goes to dealer aucitons he can easiliy pick up a 2002+ for under 10 grand with under 80k for sure! also runs on the cheapest gas as does the town car
or if you wanna go the luxury way

a LINCOLN TOWN CAR blk/blk
smooooooth ass car. 2003+ though the 2002's look ulgy plus the 03+ have navigation if needed.

but the new Infiniti M35/45's are pretty sick 2.
