How much have you spent on a pet?

Just wondering what everyone has spent on a pet vet bill. Im wanting to make myself feel a little better. My dog (miniature schnauzer) got attacked by a coyote early saturday morning maybe 3 am or so. Well i couldnt find him. He came limping up the hill around 9 am. After i went and picked him up i saw 2 big openings on his back. I called the vet, took him in. They did xrays, blah blah, that was $122 then i had to take him to the emergency vet open 24 hours. They put 21 staples in his back shaved him, put 2 drain tubes for infection, medicine and kept him overnight. That was another $522. Well 3 days later, his drains are pouring out, and i noticed his belly is splitting open as well as other spots. Took him in again, to the regular vet and they told me he has infection and the drains werent working good. He has gangrene all under the staples. They pulled them out, cut all his skin off that had gangrene, and have to keep him over the weekend. The vet said its all tissue damage no internal so he will pull through. This is going to cost me $600 or so. So as of now im in about $1250 or so. The vet said we will have to bring him back every few days to get new bandages put on free of charge and it will take him about 2 months to heal up. So how much money have you guys spent on a sick or injured pet. Make me feel better..............

Re: How much have you spent on a pet?

my beagle has torn both his back acl's, has had a slipped disc or some bullshit in his neck and recently had to have an EKG for a slight heart murmur. he turns 15 in january but i could never put him down. since these surgeries that he had about 4 or 5 years ago he has been super healthy. full-bred beagle that i got for only 100 bucks but have about 5 grand or so tied up in him. so dont feel bad

hes in much better shape now than this picture, this was right after his surgery and he put on some wight from not bein able to run for a few weeks. and this was right after katrina so we were remodeling the house, i dont live in the projects

Re: How much have you spent on a pet?

You spent 5k on your beagle because you skimped and only paid 100 for it. That's just a bad breeder..

My english bulldog was a grand, I had been talking to the breeder for months and since she was a year old I got her for a grand insread of 2400.. Since it was a good breeder, I have spent 0 on vet bills, especially amazing since ebds are notorious for health problems.

Yeah, I spent about $1500 on surgeries for my fox terrier when a foxtail worked its way through the back of her jaw into her ear.

He got loose off our back deck. Our deck is pretty big and he was out there. From the looks of it he was in the backyard and the coyote came up and attacked him and pulled him down the pasture behind our house.

Nope not an oldie. I've had the spoiled little bitch for a little over 4 months now, she runs my life I swear. She's allowed about 15mins outside max when its warm, most of that time is in the shade and grass. Its cooling off so I can take her to the dog park in the am. Post up your email and I will send pics and you can post them. I'm doing this from my cell.

Re: How much have you spent on a pet?

I dont have any pets, but i got a decent story.

My mom adopted a stray kitten that was madd inbred. 7 toes on the front feet, 2 different colored eyes, and dumb as a rock. But it was the nicest cat with teh best personality ive ever seen. Well after a year it she got a tumor in her right front leg. Doc said it was cancerous, and half the muscle had to be removed. $1500 or so, but it was such a nice cat my mom paid for it. Cat made it and came out with a slight limp as expected. A year goes by and we notice shes dragging her left rear leg a little when she walks. Take her to the vet, he finds another cancerous tumor the size of a golf ball, have to amputate the whole leg if shes gonna live, $2000. She comes out of surgery doing great, for a 3 legged cat. 6 months later we notice a lump in her tail. Take her to the vet, of course its cancerous. He removes 4 inches from her tail, only $500, and shes on her way again. 2 years go by and the cat has been living great, then she stops eating and is acting weird. Take her to the vet, and of course its another cancerous tumor, this time its in her brain. You can only cheat death so many times and God clearly didnt intend for this cat to live.

Do a ton of research first.. Really look into the breeder... they are very touchy animals.. Have to be well taken care of.
