Career Change?

I went to college and got my degree in Chemistry. I now work for a coatings manufacturer doing testing, formulation etc. I don't particularly enjoy what I am doing now, but I don't mind it, and my work is paying for me to go to grad school. I am making decent money.

I also know a bit about computers. My roomate graduated from college as well with a degree in IT, and after working a few places, he ended up as a construction superintendent, and loves what he does. Since his personal computer crashes from time to time, he always asks me for help, and most of the time, I am able to fix whatever he needs (man, I gotta start billing... ). Whenever my machine goes down, I am pretty savvy at gettin it back up and running. My own experience mainly comes from building/upgrading a few machines of my own and helping out other people if I can. Having patience and being resourceful helps as well. And I actually enjoy working on computers. So I was wondering what would be involved in making a career out of this. I suppose I would need some training classes in Microsoft whatever and hardware/networking etc to bring me up to speed with the IT world. Going back to school would not be an option at this point. I know some of you are computer nerds on here, what is your opinion? I would really enjoy a career in the IT field (not to mention the $ is nice too).
thanks.

I second that notion!
I have 10 yrs in the industry and have extensive experience with everything from desktop support all the way to my security work (Cissp Certified) and it's tough to find work and a place you LIKE working at.....

That's my

Do what makes you happy but don't just jump into something because it seem easy.
