![]() | Career Change? I went to college and got my degree in Chemistry. I now work for a coatings manufacturer doing testing, formulation etc. I don't particularly enjoy what I am doing now, but I don't mind it, and my work is paying for me to go to grad school. I am making decent money. I also know a bit about computers. My roomate graduated from college as well with a degree in IT, and after working a few places, he ended up as a construction superintendent, and loves what he does. Since his personal computer crashes from time to time, he always asks me for help, and most of the time, I am able to fix whatever he needs (man, I gotta start billing... ). Whenever my machine goes down, I am pretty savvy at gettin it back up and running. My own experience mainly comes from building/upgrading a few machines of my own and helping out other people if I can. Having patience and being resourceful helps as well. And I actually enjoy working on computers. So I was wondering what would be involved in making a career out of this. I suppose I would need some training classes in Microsoft whatever and hardware/networking etc to bring me up to speed with the IT world. Going back to school would not be an option at this point. I know some of you are computer nerds on here, what is your opinion? I would really enjoy a career in the IT field (not to mention the $ is nice too). thanks. |
