Disappointed with the new.....

Super Streetbike mag....Just picked it up today...Altho I luv'd the piece on Burnsday and Tony D.....great article....I thought the rest of it was a bit weak..especially the FULL BLOWN ICON add which was over 20 pages...

Re: Disappointed with the new.....

That was the first time I bought that mag too. The cover w/the busa got me but....yeah a little too much...they could have fit all that on 1 or 2 pages. But the shoes are pretty cool.

Re: Disappointed with the new.....

i actually liked the icon add, it showed what was new for the year and its not like it took 20 pages away from the magazine. it was like a little bonus. maybe they could have had a little mini mag for just the icon gear, but other than that it was cool. its better than cycle world

Re: Disappointed with the new.....

SSB was weak this month, I agree. The Tony D articles have been great (the australia trip was in last issue) As for the ICON advertising, it was a bit much, but if you can buy 30 pages to advertise the so be it.

I am totally sick of these gawd-awful looking 'custom' bikes they have been feauturing. Everything chromed, every and any bell and whistle bolted on, and a lavendar paint job doens't make a nice bike!!!!

Chrome is fine, but the paint jobs are too much. I like clean simple designs, or stock paint schemes. If you have to go elaborite with airbrushed everything, then black frame/swing arm/wheels dims it back down a bit. I notice that alot of these guys are bolting on too many off-the-shelf parts, and they all start to look the same.

Examples of what I like is Greggs customs R1; thats a tastefull bike, or something liek Joe Browns ride. Simple 2 colour paint, and all the steel whited out. Looks classy.

Re: Disappointed with the new.....

i agree about the custom "blinged" bikes in SSB. i don't think i've seen one in there and said "wow, that paint job looks awesome." case in point the "chucky" and "freddy" themed bikes. i don't know, maybe it's just because i don't like a bike with a theme on it or everything chromed out. plus, you can only look at so many chromed and stretched Busa's before they start to get old.

Thank you!!!!!!!!!! The worst part about the freddy bike, was that he didn't even look somewhat real. Totally carttonish!!!!! And who rakes out a busa, really ?

Re: Disappointed with the new.....

Well I can def say that down south there are a freakin ton of stretched out, raked, bling'd and whatever else BUSA's..The Busa is a great 1/4 mile street race / drag bike..but some of these designs are just to much..

Also I understand that adds in a mag are a way of generating much needed revenue..I got no problem with that..but it just felt that this new issue of SSB was one big icon add with a couple of interesting articles..

Cheers

Re: Disappointed with the new.....

People seem to over look the significance of the Icon ad, having Icon drop that much money to run an ad of that size shows that the stunt market and customizing market are growing. Seeing Icon step forward and show support is a great thing; but to see their efforts looked down upon will not help the magazine or sport grow. Instead of coming on here and badmouthing some of the limited supports, Super Streetbike and Icon, the stunt riders have; why don’t you give suggestions on what you would like to see.

Also the magazine isn’t tailored to just stunt riders. There are a lot of people reading the magazine that like the custom bikes. These people put a lot of work into their bikes and should get exposure for their work. I don’t like all of them but I respect the work they put into them.

The magazine can’t be personalized for each person’s specific taste. If more people give feed back, it will help the magazine grow.

Just dropping some knowledge on you, take it for what it is worth.

Re: Disappointed with the new.....

I agree with foto.

You can't have the custom bikes be only what you like

I like flat blakc EVERYTHING, and performance parts ONLY. Like one of GR's bikes, but that's me, and my idea of a custom bike. When i see a chromed out, extended swingarm busa, I'm sure not gonna trash it, to much work and to much time put into it. Even though EVERYONE does the busa, each one is a work of art, and each diserves it's own respect.

On a side note, I thought the 20 pages wasn't TOO bad. If you don't wanna read it, flip ahead.

Re: Disappointed with the new.....

Also keep in mind for all the chromed out trick bits, there's a company that sells them. Hopefully, by showing a chromed out, slammed bike, and a place that sells the parts, the magazine helps connect the two.

As far as the Icon ad, I'd like to say THANK YOU to Icon for supporting the sport. There isn't many big companies putting their money up like that.

Then next time I'm going to buy some gear, I'm going to look at who supports what I'm into.

On another note, I write some of those stories on the custom bikes. WHat type of bikes would you like to see featured.

Re: Disappointed with the new.....

First of all I have supported SSB since its first edition and will continue to do so.
2nd I BOUGHT the mag and expressed my displeasure with it...I also took the time to acknowledge the Burns day article...But did I enjoy flipping thru the 20 plus pages of Icon adds when i was hoping to see more articles about the stunt and bike scene no I did not....You say I should of had some suggestions on how to make the mag better...Well I thought I did just that....In case you missed it...less ICON adds would of been nice.
I got no problem with adds in the mag, of course all support aimed at the stunt world is welcome...BUT I thought the icon section was HUGE overkill and for me killed the flow of the mag...I bought it, read it and was simply giving some critical feedback. I never told anyone to not buy it.

Actually, the Icon ad was 48 pages.

After a year of pushing this magazine we've learned one thing: 98-percent of advertisers and potential advertisers (ie, the people that make it possible to produce this magazine) effin' hate stunting and wish it would forever go away. Ironically, Icon is one of the two percent that doesn't hate stunting... Those same 98-percent of potential advertisers almost universally love custom sportbikes, because each one of those blinged-out 'Busas that everyone loves to hate represents a person who has spent anywhere from $30K-$60K of his or her hard-earned cash in the motorcycle industry. Advertisers want to reach those people--most of them could give a sh*t about reaching broke-a** stunters...

Until stunters and stunt fans start spending cash like that there is no way this industry will ever support a stand-alone stunt magazine, so if you like reading any stunt content at all on the newsstand you're just going to have to choke down the occasional circus-freak Busa.

Sorry kids, just droppin' some reality,

Aaron Frank

Smurfkilla my post wasn’t directed to you specifically, it was for the masses. I grasped the concept of you not liking the Icon ad, I also grasped the concept of it being your opinion.
