Who has broken a subframe, and what bike?

I am just looking for some general info... Let me know what year, engine size, if the subframe was braced/reinforced, and what you were doing (obviously scraping will come in high...).

Re: Who has broken a subframe, and what bike?

98 CBR F3....put it on the bar, and it bent like wet spaghetti (causing me to gas it, and flip the bike).... the subframe is made to the frame on this model, so im going to weld a bar from the frame below the bottom subframe bar, and run it back all the way to the tail, and box the tail to around 3", and make a ROUND 12 bar (flat 12 bars are USELESS to me, and DANGEROUS) anyone w/ pics of reinforced subframes POST THEM TOO!

Re: Who has broken a subframe, and what bike?

ive tweaked my f4i sub but its from hitting the bar with loose bolting causing it to hit the little tab in the rear forcing it up

Re: Who has broken a subframe, and what bike?

well, I built some reinforcement for an f4i, made from 1/4" by 1 1/2" steel. The stuff was so hard I had to use an oxy/acet torch to soften it for bending. I have them on the bike now, but I can try to get some pics or something.

The subframe is so stiff now it's amazing. The way I have them built it puts the stress on the bars and off the actual subframe mounting points. I don't know if the subframe will still bend with these, or just break the reinforcements. Hopefully the latter if anything. I have heard the gixxers have a big problem with the mounting tab breaking off the frame, this design would probably take care of that. IDK, I need someone to lend me one so I can fabricate up some brackets and find out how well it would work.

Any volunteers?

Nate

Re: Who has broken a subframe, and what bike?

yeh i broke one of the tabs on my gixer. friend made up some 3mm alloy straps that i just bolt on from the rear sets to the pillion peg to strengthend it. that way it has to pull twice as much before it brakes again if it does and less pull on the tab were the subframe bolts up, if that makes any scence. hope this helps. uh yeh. its an 03 600.
