03 636 Getting Hot??!!

So I have had this bike since November. I bought it pretty ragged out, but it always ran strong. I never had a problem with it mechanically. I tore it down about a month ago and did the 05/06 swap on it and had it painted. I have it all back togther now and I can't keep it from overheating. The only thing I changed on the engine were the plugs, and a shorty pipe. My ignition switch shorted out so I replaced that too. Anyone have any ideas??

Re: 03 636 Getting Hot??!!

I'd probably start with the cooling system.
-Verify coolant is circulating through radiator and fan is coming on. Make sure t-stat is opening around 180 - 190 degrees. (I can't remember what temp the factory one opens at, but should be somewhere around that range)

Next I'd probably pull the plugs and check the gaps since you just replaced them. At the same time, I would follow with a compression test and make sure head gasket is intact.

Beyond that, need more information about what is exactly going on with the bike. When and how is it overheating and what are the temperatures during these conditions. Stock fan switch doesn't even turn on until around the 220F range.

Does your fan come on at all? I had to replace my whole fan wiring due to blowing fuses alot. Then i hot wired it the "right" way.

Thank you for posting what the end result was.

So many of these threads just end in nothingness with no knowledge of what the problem and solutions were.

Glad you got it figured out.

Yeah me too. The only part that sucks is the kawi shop didn't have a thermostat in stock, so i made a redneck thermostat out of a coke can to get me through the weekend!!
