f4i starting problem

So I have a friend with an f4i that is experiencing a problem starting his f4i.

After he rides his bike around for a while, if he turns it off, it won't turn back on. When he turns it back on, the fuel pump primes, but the starter button does absolutely nothing. If we push start it, it starts up just fine.

Any ideas what is wrong with it?

Well I'm not a mechanic, but I might as well be so I'd say its one of a couple things. If you have checked all your fuses which I'm sure you've done because thats like the first thing you should do when something is acting up right?........Ok, now that you've checked em A: there is a black diode inside your fuse box that looks like a fuse that may have gone bad or sometimes over heats, check it B: your bike is getting too hot and the ecu isn't going to let the bike start or run unless it comes back down to temp (check to see if you have radiator fluid and that your fan comes on). C: You have a bad starter which I would never believe because they don't really go bad D: Your neutral sensor is bad or not hooked up (which is easily hardwired or pluged in) E: your kickstand sensor is not pluged in or gone bad (again easily hardwired or plugged in) F: You have an extremely dead battery that only has enough juice to kick on the fuel pump( check the voltage at the battery you should have about 12 voltz if not turn the bike on and while the bike is running, check it again and if you still have less than 12-13 voltz your stator isn't charging the battery and its going dead while you're riding---this would obviously be a much bigger problem) and uh.....again I gotta ask.... did you check all the fuses? Dumb question but its the easiest answer so its usually the right one. Let me know if that doesn't fix it. Good Luck.

Re: f4i starting problem

Fuses are good, battery is good, it's not the temperature I don't think.

It literally does NOTHING when you press the starter. It will also start on command if you push start it (so it doesn't have to do with kickstarting it). I don't think it's the battery speaking everything works just fine, but it doesn't even attempt to turn over.

Starter motor perhaps?

Re: f4i starting problem

I really have never seen one just go bad all the sudden but maybe. Bank Angle sensor malfunfunction?....( have you hardwired it?- usually that kills the fuel pump as well though and you say its turning on). ohh **** dude, I wonder if your starter cylinoid is bad, they don't go bad very often but I've seen it. There's a black box about the size of the fuse box towards the front of the battery box area, sort of on the left side, it will have two wires going out the front side of it and should have a red fuse cover over it. Check it by taking one off of another bike and replacing it to see if it's gone bad. Sounds to me liek the starter just isn't getting power for some reason and that means its either bad or the fuse/cylinoid is bad. Tap on the starter with a wrench while you push the start button and see if it jogs the starter loose.
Feel free to call me too if its easier. (970) 566 2454 Good luck.
