my buddies f4i tach only moves when you turn the key it goes across and comes back that s it no matter how hard you rev the bike it doesnt work tried the guages of another f4i and it still didnt work .can any one tell me where it gets the reading for rpms or where i can find the wires for it so i can chase them down

If i had to venture a guess, Id say that the tach isnt getting a signal from the eec-my 929 did it. EXACT same symtoms, in the end it needed a new computer and all was well. Mike

Tach wire is the yellow w/ green stripe comming off the back of the gauges. Test it...

my speedometer works just fine, but, my tach is on crack... when it does work? it's flickers on 5,000 for example then it will jump to redline, and fly around like its a fly on my display. it's annoying? yeah. sometimes it's works okai, well kinda, and sometimes at idle it's okai. but in neutral? if i rev it, it'll flicker as it climbs up, weird. is my tachometer on crack?

Would a bike that had a faulty ecu still run normal and function as if its speedo/tach was not malfunctioning?

That might be the case of my bike...
