Question plastics on or off?

HI,

i'm riding an 03 zx6rr with stock plastics, a tygershark cage and coming soon a power stunt worx sub cage with solid pegs. Right now i am still learning how to slow down wheelies to idle. I am getting them to about 10 mph on -1 +1 gearing and i am going to work on 12's (soon as my bar comes in) and hopefully circles soon.

My question is do you guys recommend that i take off my ferring at this point in my progress? I've dropped the bike once on each side and the only thing that has broken so far is both of my foot pegs. My buddy that i ride with thinks im crazy for having plastics on, but i think it looks AMAZING and i see so many people on stunt life with them on...

Please let me know, and thank you for your help!

this is not the image that stuntriders should portray and its not the image the real competitors do. your bike should look good, because eventually it doesnt really matter how hard the trick is that youre doing, it matters how you make it look. if you watch 2 stunters at the same level and one is riding a shit looking f4i with no plastics and dirtbike bars, and one with a newer bike ff with clip ons, the guy with the nice bike will win any competition. STUNT does NOT and should NOT mean riding a junk ass bike. ppl need to take more pride in their stuntbikes. crispy bikes are where its at and its really not that hard to keep em like that. if you have a cage on your bike you shouldnt worry about your plastics, really how often do you flip a stoppie or drop your bike in another manner where the unprotected plastics like the tail and upper are in jeapordy of being broken?

I saw MikeM come past me doing a coaster on a pos stuntbike and then forgot the dudes name but he came past doing the same exact coaster on a blinged out Erion 929 with chrome all over and even though they were doing the same trick - the dude on the 929 looked better lol. To the OP, take your plastics off til you learn the basics and dont drop your bike as much. I started learning with a brand new 06 GSXR 600 and every piece of plastic was rashed or destroyed within 2 months. I wish I woulda taken them off instead of thinking Id be okay

Re: plastics on or off?

Thank you guys SOOOO MUCH for your responses. Im thinking i'm going to take them off for a while. I definitely want to put them back on eventually.

I definitely agree about making your bike look good. In a contest or show, your sponsors aren't going to be very interested in you if you look like you just rolled up from a destruction derby. There is a whole business aspect to action sports that rider's sometimes don't care to realize. Its like a job interview..... with a crowd....
