pros and cons for bigger sprocket

Hey guys

Im loving doing stunts on my 954, what a bike to stunt!!!!

Ive been thinking of getting a bigger sprocket. Now i need to know what the pro's and con's are?

I want a bigger sprocket so that i have more torque.

Any help would be great!

Re: pros and cons for bigger sprocket

not 2 sound like a dick ... but if your "stunting" then you shouldnt have 2 ask about sprockets

you lose top end on a bigger sprocket but got more low end and you lost gas mileage depending on how u plan on usin ur bike

I thought 53t worked best for my 954. Its all preference, but that's what I'd suggest

Re: pros and cons for bigger sprocket

I use stock gearing on my f4i. I went up 8 teeth on my 636 for killing streets. I needed more teeth for doing 2nd and 3rd gear wheelies.

Re: pros and cons for bigger sprocket

I was going to post a very similar thread up myself.
Am I right in thinking then fundamentally, the bigger the sprocket the more acceleration you'll have in the lower gear and the less top end high speed you'll have when you get into 5th+?

Well im not to worry about top speed. I just want more torque for the wheelies.

Re: pros and cons for bigger sprocket

You don't neccesarily need a bigger sprocket for 2nd and 3rd wheelies, just higher RPM's, more clutch control and a better feel for balancing while its up. A bigger sprocket is gonna help with more technical tricks ie. high chairs, spreaders, and they help keep the wheel up when your slowin your wheelies down. A speedo healer just calibrates your speedometer with your sprocket so it doesnt say your doing 80 when your only going 40 cause of a huge sprocket.

Re: pros and cons for bigger sprocket

biggest pro to doing the speedo healer is that you arent racking up miles that arent actually being used.

Re: pros and cons for bigger sprocket

Hey MotoPhotoMan, thats exactly what i want the bigger sprocket for.

When i want to slow my wheelies down i would still like to keep it up in the air.

What would you say is the right size? 50t 52t?

Re: pros and cons for bigger sprocket

not to thread jack, but to consolidate and add something that might be forgotten:

I was looking for a 55T for my F4i, and finding a sproket is easy, but tryin to figure out if my stock chain is long enough is the question. id also pose this to St Lunatic if he hasnt thoght about this already.

Hope both questions can be answered.

i don't know what stock is on an f4i...but if you're going plus more than 3 or 4 teeth in the rear youll probably need to buy a new chain

Honestly......if you're having problems finding anything locally, and you're going to have to order from the US.......I'ld go -2 up front on the countershaft. That's an equivalent of +6 in the back.....AND....you'll still be able to use your chain. Much, much cheaper. Food for thought!
