dirt bike jumping issue

I've been riding dirtbikes for a while but I just got a new yz 250 and I'm having some issues jumping it...I know I might sound like a tool but I want to get this...It's a bigger bike than I'm used to and I want to extend my jumps and go higher..any tips? I found out to keep the gas the whole way the hard way...anything is appreciated. PM me if you want Thanks!

Welcome to stuntlife! Congrats on the new dirtbike too. Just a tip....this is the streetbike stunting section of the forum that you posted your question in. You may have better luck with an answer in the motorcross/dirtbike section. Thats where most of those riders hang. Good luck with the jumping.

You need more gas to go farther and higher. The quicker you're going, the farther you'll jump. It's a pretty basic concept. The key point is to shift your body weight in the air. Keep your weight towards the back when you hit the jump so the bike pops up. Then slowly shift your weight towards the front so the bike levels out and eventually aims down toward the landing.

Another thing that helps is to compress your suspension right before hitting the ramp.

Its all about Suspension Preeload. You need to compress the suspension on the roll of the jump and after it leaves stand up and either hit the gas or rear break in relationship to the attitude of the bike. Just use 2nd gear to practice its usally the gear I use on my cr 250. Also having a Really good suspension like Factory Connection Helps and the set up is a Major Factor. They are set up for 160 lb rider and I weight 200 so the settings are way Diff and having a company who knows what to do will give you a coupple of sec in lap times right off and the more you ride lower they will go.

don't mind the spelling.it sucks i know

Re: dirt bike jumping issue

When you come up on a small or big but start small like a whoop section just as you roll up the bottom push the whole bike down....Handle bars and push on the pegs. Then as it lifts off spring up and goose the throttle at the base also all in one....its kind of hard to explain but its on smooth motion rollup, compress and spring off. Also there is always some good articles in DirtRIDER and a few others. They give some Pro insider tips that help like turns whoops, jumping Ect. I def would ride a 125 on the tracks just cause you can whip it Hard but nothing beats a 250 in the woods and on the hills...
