I know, that's why i said my shotgun is better home defense, and the shot pattern may not spread over ten yards too much, but the point is to have as many projectiles coming at a certain point, which it definitely does. I'm an accountant major, and the top calculus stundent at Ole Miss, i know the formula, but the mass is a bit different than the weight, in that the mass of the bullet depends on dimensions in which you yourself state is important, because the size of the wound has a directly proportional relationship to the amount of incapacitation that the individual is subject to. The only exception to this is like black talons, which do the same thing of having larger mass, only they do only upon impact........ i still take my AR all day long over the pistols........it's the gun i'm gonna take when this worlds coming to an end...not a damn pistol. Just some pistols have more capable means in houses. | |

![]() | Re: best 9mm handgun AR is not a good home defense weapon. Long and not much take down power and high chance of overpentrating. Inside a house the shot spread pattern isn't going to be fully developed. +1 I'd be a little concerned about shooting a neighbor , Very sweet gun though |

![]() | Re: best 9mm handgun You are going to get 1000 different answers and 1000 different opinions. It honestly is a matter of what is comfortable for you. I shoot IDPA and IPSC competitions and have always used the XD. I have both an XD-9 and an XD-9 V-10 ported model. I prefer to shoot the XD as it has a more natural point of aim to me. When I throw it up, it comes to bear directly on target naturally as to where I have to point the Glock slightly downward. It is just how my hand conforms to the XD more comfortably than the Glock. Once you have a gun that is a comfortable fit for you, it takes practice, practice, and more practice to be able to accuratley shoot in a practical or tactical situation. I have personally fired 1000's of rounds and am only SOMEWHAT comfortable with the knowledge I could perform in a practical situation, and I can triple-tap 3 into a paper plate at 20 yards in less than a second. That is not in a practical or tactical application though. In my head the practical would come from a defensive standpoint and the tactical an offensive. In a tactical situation I have every confidence my experience would pay off, but I would have a different set of nerves and a different level of adrenaline running at that point. To sum this up, no matter what you decide is right for you, there is no substitute for high numbers of rounds up and downrange. ![]() |

![]() | Re: best 9mm handgun I have fired the p-226 both at the range and in competition. Not a bad gun, just didn't work for me. Like I said, the XD simply conforms to my hand and individual shooting style better than any other handgun I have come across. Now as far as for home defense, I am comfortable with my XD for defense and 1 can always be found in my bed somewhere. Again, with the combat style firing I am accustomed to, I will put 5-7 rounds center mass before most folks get off 1 shot. Last edited by edgeman68 : 03-03-2008 at 03:42 PM. |

![]() | Re: best 9mm handgun Another point you may want to consider is the manufacturers warranty. The XD carries a lifetime warranty on it. Springfield is EXCELLENT about backing this up. I had an ejector pin break (my fault, not the guns) and they repaired it with a quickness and then also covered the shipping charges. They also sent me a gaggle of Springfield stickers, a new barrel lock and a complete cleaning kit. I should clarify why this was so impressive: The first XD I bought was an XD, but yet not an XD. The gun was a HS2000. A company called Intrac had secured the rights for the HS2000 originally and was importing them into the country. The guns are actually manufactured in Croatia for the Croatian military. Springfield then picked up the rights when Intrac decided to let them go. Springfield also machined the gun for the additional 40, 45 and 357 Sig calibers. Springfield decided to honor the lifetime warranty Intrac offered on the gun along with their own. I sent them my HS2000, which I broke all on my own, and they repaired it free of charge and sent me all kinds of goodies along with it. Pretty damn good customer service if you asked me. I don't know if Sig or Glock trereats their customers this well, but the service I received helped to make me a loyal Springfield customer. P.S. Not a bold statement. Merely a statement of fact. ![]() Last edited by edgeman68 : 03-03-2008 at 04:54 PM. |

![]() | Re: best 9mm handgun 6 in one, 1/2 dozen in the other...... Sig, Glock, HK, Springfield...just chose a reputable handgun...go to the range and rent some guns out.....see what fits in your hand, what trigger pull you like, sights you prefer, do you want a decocking lever, manual safety, ect. Good luck with the choice!! |

![]() | Re: best 9mm handgun I got a berreta 92fs with a 15 round clip. i'm accurate to at least 40' with it in the killzone (havent tried any further yet)...smooth as shit. in fact, everytime i goto one of the ranges here, even the range officers all say that it is a badass gun and wish they could have gotten one. dont really carry it as much as i should tho. to me its really just to big to carry unless its in my brief. pain in the ass to try and stow it somewheres in my truck, def dont fit in the glove compartment. was thinkin bout gettin somethin smaller just to carry, maybe even a bigger cal. doesnt really matter what size cal you have tho, if you cant shoot the damn think it aint gonna work anyways. hell, if its all chaotic when shit goes down and you wing the guy, its still just a flesh wound either way you look at it. no matter what you get, you need to practice with it. also have a romania ak knockoff, pretty good with that to. deadly at 50 yards with just the iron sights on it...need to go to a bigger range with that fucker. also just got a remington 720 bolt-action 30.06...facker kicks like a mule. just bought a moss 500a the other day with the pistol grip and what i like to call the "door-knocker special" barrel tip lol. should be gettin the top-folding stock, heat shield w/ ghost sights, and the extra shotshell holder in the mail tomarrow. |

![]() | Re: best 9mm handgun on the topic of over penetration 9mm and .40sw will both over penetrate if you're in an apartment or somewhere there's a good possibility someone is within a couple walls of you. .45 is your best bet in that situation because of the lower velocity and larger mass it doesn't penetrate as far as the lighter higher velocity ammunition. another thing that helps with over penetration is a good hollow point self defense round such as speer gold dot. |
