paint help

ok im getting ready for my new 05 400 ex
and im trying to sell my 97 300 ex. not much wrong except plastic damage and the grab bar and bumper. i removed both and sanded them down to bare metal. 3 or 4 coats of primer then some chrome/ aluminum paint. i left that over night and in the morning it comes right off. OK sanded it down again cleaned the surface of the metal lighter coats of primer. primer mostly sticks but paint still wont. bought new paint same problem. has anyone encountered this? maybe its the metal? thanx in advance

Re: paint help

if you're sanding all the way to the metal, clean it real good with acetone or paint thinner to get all grease and such off the metal. Then spray the primer with real light coats. Scuff the primer real light with some fine (400 or finer) sand paper. Clean with soap and water, dry real good. The spray the paint with real light coats. What are you doing to make the paint come off? Pressure washing it? Just dont mess with it for a while. That's weird you're having that much problems. Make sure the primer and paint are somewhat compatible and that they're both for metal. Hope this helps.

Re: paint help

I wouln't paint the front push bar. It should be a polished alluminum.
just polish it up wit some steel wool. Shiny like my Hiney

The rear grab bar just spray paint that

Re: paint help

do not use soap and water with anything when you paint. soap has oils in it and will have a reaction. sand down to bare metal again prime with real auto primer paint while primer is tacky and then clear when paint is dry if you have a problem after that that means you just didnt prep it right. try using wax and grease remover before primer but not in between coats
