Ttr125l, Drz125l, Or Crf150f To Stunt??

O.K. Looking to buy one of these bikes and put street tires on it and stunt. But which one would be best?
A little delimma tho'
TTR125L is $2,699-$2899
DRZ125L is $2,499
CRF150F is $3,149 BUT the Honda dealer hear just got some 06's from there warehouse and selling them for $2,499

My thought is the CRF since it has more power and a bigger bike feel, but there seems to be a lot more stuff around for the TTR, and honestly haven't even sat on the DRZ.

And when I get one what size tires can I run?

What's your guy's thoughts??

Thanks,
Marc

Re: Ttr125l, Drz125l, Or Crf150f To Stunt??

Thanks, did you put tires on your 150 and if so what kind and size? I'll be picking it up new and would like to buy the tires and knukkle gaurds, etc. all at the same time.

By the way the salesman said that there isn't anymore room to move on the price so I asked if he could throw in a helmet and pretty much said no since there 2 different dept.
Any suggestions there?

Thanks,
Marc

CRF fo shizzle. The DRZ's only worth while if you go with the 400. I have no opinion on the TTR because I've never ridden one

Looking at videos and pics of the DRZ400SM, been throwing that idea around to. They just look like a blast to ride.
Did you buy your 400 new and if so how much room did they move off the sticker price?

Thanks,
Marc

Marc I love my DR-Z, but I wouldn't recommend it as an only bike, great as a second bike. It has no highway worthiness, I mean it will do the 55mph but you won't be dominating the expressway on it, that's why I plan on using it for around town riding and stunting. Great for wheelies and stoppies tho, right out the box. I did buy it new in '06, but I financed it and got my ass handed to me so I can't give you any purchasing advice. Good luck with your decision.

Of the 3, I absolutley love the DRZ125L. Not many people buy them but I've stunted everything there is to stunt and by far had the most fun on that bike.

That's the thing, would I have to register a 400? I only want it for stunting and jumping stairs lol. I don't even want to ride on the roads with it at all.
And since I would be financing as well, I'm sure the state would want it registered and the bank would want ins.
I would so get a 400 if it wasn't for thoughs 2 reasons.
Can I ask ya what your payments are if ya don't mind me asking.

Thanks,
Marc

Nags,
The DRZ125 is one of the cheaper ones, the dealership I believe has some 06's as well, which I believe are going for like $2199 or something.

Man two many options, I might have to write them all down on little pieces of paper and throw them in a fish bowl and draw. lol

Sick picks by the way, saw them when I was searching for a thread.

Thanks,
marc

Re: Ttr125l, Drz125l, Or Crf150f To Stunt??

Oh by the way this will be my only bike and I plan on trucking it around and practicing all through the fall and winter, then jumping back on a sportbike.

I no longer have the bikes in my avatar. Total'd one and sold the other, and I've been out of stunting for over a year and a half.

So wanting to get back into it strong, but I never left with any rear brake or hand brake skills what so ever. That's why I'm looking into a mini motard so to speak.

Thanks for all the help.
Marc

O.K. been looking into this. I'm thinking of going with the DRZ250. Has everything I need and doesn't have to be registered or ins.
But I can't find street tire for it. Someone has to make them...I hope.

What do ya think?

Thanks,
Marc

Yeah, 30lbs. heavier. But I figure at 253lbs it's still a light bike and I would be getting better frame, forks, etc.

You have street tires on your 250?

Re: Ttr125l, Drz125l, Or Crf150f To Stunt??

The DRZ125 is about 175lbs. The DRZ250 is like 250lbs. Its at least 70lbs heavier...

I've never had enough money to afford street tires. But really, you don't need street tires to do basic and more advanced stunts...

I can pick up my bike just fine and stoppie fine on knobs.

Niice! Yeah I was doiing the comparison with the CRF150F and the DRZ250, with the wieght diff. My bad..
Aren't you rockin' a 250? If so, wouldn't you recommend going ahead and getting the DRZ250??

Ooh I knew you were going to mention that...

Alright, see here the 250 I've got is a whole different beast from the 250 that you're thinking about (the DRZ). That's because mine is a race/competition bike while the DRZ250 (or Honda's CRF230 for example) is a fun trail bike. When I moved from my fun bike 150 to this all-business 250, I got a lot more than just 66% more horsepower (more like 250% more ponies).

Let me use the Honda CRF230 as an example compared to a CRF250 race bike (similar to mine):

The 230 is essentially the 150 with a bigger motor and one more speed. It is also a lot heavier, therefore not making it worth the power-to-weight ratio. My race 250 is actually the same weight as my trail 150. But I'd say that I'm getting much tighter, more responsive, even 3x the power. The suspension on the race bike is also a lot stiffer and its got front and back disc brakes, liquid-cooling and all this other crap...

So basically its tough to explain, but here's what we get out of this:

- Better go with either the 125 or 150 instead of a 250 (trail bike) because of the power/weight ratio.
- Either get a 125/150 or get a race 250. What I did was exact to this: I started on a 150, got the basics down without killing myself, and then moved up to this much more serious 250.

So yeah... I'm probably all over the place here, but trying to get my reasoning out...

I'm using Honda as the examples because I'm familiar with them.

CRF250R (or X) This is what I have:

CRF230F (very similar to the DRZ250) What you're thinking about:

A huge difference.

So in answer to your original forthright question:

1. Yes I am rocking a 250.
2. No.

Re: Ttr125l, Drz125l, Or Crf150f To Stunt??

Oh and one more thing.

Those pictures above, the 230 looks like its as big if not bigger than the 250. Don't judge that way. If you did, then you would notice that the 50 picture is as big as the 450r...

Honda takes these photoshoots obviously to fill the bike in the shot... In reality, the 250 is actually a much taller bike than the 230...
