Re: sprocket for DRZ400SM??

Don't think gearing will help you much. I can clutch mine up in 3rd gear rather easily, then you can shift to 4th and even 5th gear, just takes practice. Otherwise try seat stander wheelies, you'll get it up in 3rd without even having to clutch. Or you can have your right leg/knee on the seat, clutch it up in 2nd or 3rd gear then shift ur way up, of course you wont be able to cover the rear brake which might be scary at first but u'll be fine uing the engine brake.

Re: sprocket for DRZ400SM??

God i love my CRF450R, i can pull it up in 5th without clutch. Just bounce the supension, wack the throttle, and lean back. And im only running 14-48 gearing.

I can also pull up my XR650R in 3rd at 45 MPH, and thats with really tall gearing! 15-39

OH yeah, and if your good, just pull it up in 2nd, and shift to 3rd and ride it

Re: sprocket for DRZ400SM??

I think he basically just wants to be able to huck it up on the highway when crusing at speed, without having to slow down and downshift first....

could be wrong too...Hell, I dunno...

I personally would never take it out of first gear! I would be trying to go slower and slower with it, stallin out all the time and mousetraping, and working on proper clutch control....

but that's just me....

Re: sprocket for DRZ400SM??

haha my dad threw -3 on the rear sprocket to make it more confortable on highway and i can pull it up in 3rd no problem from 30 mph. it is jetted but thats it. push donw a bit and tug the bars. better yet knee in seat takes pressure off your arms and even easier to bring up and turn while in wheelie. i start in sitdown in 3rd then go to spreader all the time lol. im sellin 636 to get drz!!

I'll tell you what trips me out.. is the weight thing....

I feel like on a motard I can just huck that bitch all over the place and I'm not really afraid of getting smashed or whatever... but the difference in weight really isn't that much!

09 DRZ 400 Weight:146 kg (321 lbs)

06 GSXR 600 Weight:161kg (354 lbs)

that's straight off the suzuki website too...

Maybe that 33lbs does make a difference, I have a 01 WR250F (steel frame) and a 04 CRF250X (aluminum frame), my WR is a little heavier than the CRF, I can feel the weight differance on circles and stuff, its wierd, if I ride one for a week and jump on the other, it takes like 15 minutes to get used to it again.
