Re: upside down forks

I've seen some air cooled XR's with CR85 front forks.

Replace your shock too. XR's have booty suspension. Don't let the graphics fool you either, its an XR.

Re: upside down forks

It is an XR.

Upgrading to CR85 forks will unbalance the bike because the rear end will still be 1983 technology w/ current forks. Your best bet is to buy an 85, drop your motor in and be done with it. Updated chasis, suspension, and brakes all in one stop.

OR you could just BUY STIFFER SPRINGS. There are about a million and one aftermarket companies, and even OEM Honda ($$$) that offer stiffer spring setups.

Re: upside down forks

You can do the following to alter your suspension. (You can do just one or several changes)...
-Stiffer springs (best & smarter option)
-Spring spacers
-Increasing fork oil height
-Increasing your dampening adjusters (if you have em)
-Using thicker oil
-Sliding your forks as far down in the triple clamps may help too,
this would take weight front the front end and put more on the rear.

Suspension is very serious and extremely complicated. Changing one of the above even slightly can make a dramatic difference in suspension performance. This being said you cant just take forks from another machine and bolt them on.
