Re: help with my project

Hey, I had an 87 and I just threw some street tires on it and rode it around, lots of fun. Here are a few pics of some others. This will give you an idea of how crazy you can go with it.

Re: help with my project

The 88 XR600 is a great platform to work with. I've got my eye on one and my buddy bought an 88 this past summer. I've riden lots of older XR's and the 88' is a great bike.

Here's some of my 83' XR500 supermoto bike. Rare find, but fun to ride.

Baja is too expensive for me. I used my existing headlight and brakelight. However the headlight dims on a low RPM because of a lack of a stator. I had to wire in a brake light switch on an aftermarket tail light to be legal in Colorado. Most dual sports will have a stator, front and rear brake switch, and signals. I just wired in a cheap directional kit, using small directionals that were aftermarket as well.

As for your kick back... not sure about that. My fat ass never gets kicked off anything. Sounds like you've got some strong compression... good luck.

I had the same idea for my xr500... only problem is the hole pattern. Finding a modern rim with the proper hole alignment is going to be difficult. I ended up buying used rims to fit my hubs. They're actually off a BMW dual sport. The front is a 19 and the rear is a 17, but because of the tires I have mounted the overall outside radius of the two tires are the same, giving the same feel as if I were running two 17's.
