problems mounting 954 rear wheel on 929...

buddy of mine gave me a set of 954 wheels. i just got my rear brake bracket back from the welder and was going to put the 954 wheels on because it has a better tire. from what i know they are neer identical. when i tried to put it on it was to wide and the sproket was loose and was almost falling off the rim. so after many curse words i decide to try my other wheel. it goes on with out any problems. WTF? am i just missing something or do i need different bearings or cush drive? thanks for the help.

Is this Twinkle Toes?

I think you do need the cush, bearings, and axel. But i'm not sure. I guess you'll have to wait till Honda Tech Ryan Smith to confirm this.

i dunno on the 929/954 but on all other bikes that have interchangeable wheels, you have to use the cush, axle and spacers that go with the wheel. An F4 rear wheel wont go on an f4i if you try to use the f4i spacers and cush drive, but if you use the f4 spacers and cush drive and sprocket it works fine.

Yup. The F4 F4i wheels (front & back) are different in the respect of Rotors, Cush, Sprocket, spacer and front axel.

The 929 Front wheel is interchangable with the 954 front wheel, the forks are slightly different, distinguishable by the fork Caps (blue anadized caps on the 954). I think the F4i front and rear work with the 929, but you need Front rotors axel and rear spacers.

I had my Front Spacers custom bored to fit a 929 axel (two left side F4 spacers bored to 929 axel diameter) and it worked mint. However, the Black Nissins from F4/F4i internally are just off from the 929/954 Gold Nissins and you will get a mounted front Caliper with maximum drag. (Part number are off, initially I thought that was a color thing, but later after finding out what each number ment, it was established that it was more than color)

Just a bit more, 929 and 954 are different in the respect of front bearings races and bearing style.

929 = Ball w/ Indented Races (congruent to F4i/F4/F3/F2/F1)
954 = Pin bearing with flat beveled gliding planes (954/1000RR)

IF YOU HAVE A 954 RIM THEN IT HAS 954 BEARINGS IN IT. TRY SOMETHING ELSE. TRY SWITCHING THE CUSH DRIVES, YOU MAY HAVE THEM IN UPSIDE DOWN, IVE SEEN IT BEFORE.

Re: problems mounting 954 rear wheel on 929...

If the wheel bearings are diffenent diameter then wouldnt the axel need to be the axel from whichever bike the wheel was from?

929 wheel must have 929 axel etc. But like Ryan said, the Cush would prolly have to match too. The real question is the swingarm. Width and the size of the hole for the axel. Get on Ron Ayers and figure it out.

Re: problems mounting 954 rear wheel on 929...

the axle is fine as far as diameter goes. the problem is the width from spacer to spacer. it is a few **** hairs to wide. im going to try to get the 954 cush drive and see if that is my problem. the bearings in the cush drive are the ones i was talking about. the cush drive i have is the 929 one. and its not upside down. i did double check. thanks for the confiedents. j/k. im thinking its the cush drives. i let yall know. thanks.

I SAW A GUY HAVING THAT PROBLEM AT WORK, IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH CONFIDENCE. THE CUSH DRIVES SHOULD BE THE SAME, I WOULD CHECK THE SPACERS.

Grind the spacers down like brake pads. Rub them against the sidewalk!
