Awesome Rider, gone but not forgotten

Friday, July !6 2004, Jonathan Wayne (DUKE) Davidson died in a motorcycle crash at the age of 22. Duke was one of the coolest guys i have ever met, and probably the best rider ive rode with. I only had the pleasure of knowing him for 6 months or so but he made a hell of an impression on me and i'll never forget him!!! Duke was fearless and that may have been what did him in but that really made him who he was. He was doin about 120 on his 750 gixxer and lowsided in a sharp turn, and slammed the gaurd rail. Nobody knows what happened for sure but the guy riding with him said that it was possibly cold tires or something because duke has nailed that turn faster than that a hundred times. But it doesnt matter what happened, i just know hes gone and i miss the hell out of him... I'll miss those rockin endos and those high speed high chairs and all the crazy shit he did and most of all i'll miss the person he was..... R.I.P. Bro, I hope there's a stunt spot in heaven!!!

Re: Awesome Rider, gone but not forgotten

sorry to hear .. one reason im not a big fan of high speed turns.. hmm.. tires would most likely be fairly warm if they were cruising @ that speed.. the thing with turns is, never know if a car before you was leaking antifreeze or oil... ever get caught on antifreeze @ a stop light.. its like ice

Re: Awesome Rider, gone but not forgotten

ya know i just kinda randomly clicked into this thread and i was scared when i read it. simply because that date is tatooed on my arm in memory of a great guy and a personal mentor in my motorcycle world, Charles A. Kubat Jr. he was 25 years old. i was behind him when he went down. he came into an easy corner very hot and suddenly something went wrong...back brake locked up and he tried his best to bring it down in a low side to save his skin but the front tire went off the road and caught gravel and he high sided into a pole. we tried CPR on him for 10 minutes before the EMT's got there and i gave him to them. he was gone though just after we made the initial 911 call. i gotta say...i miss him more everyday and the spirit just doesnt' seem to be here the same as before even though he rides with us every time that we go out.

i hope and pray that you know that your friend is with you as well when you ride and i pray that you find comfort in the fact that he is watching over you and giving you good clear days and smooth roads ahead of you.

peace and keep it tank side up my friends.

Re: Awesome Rider, gone but not forgotten

My condolences also. I was in a terrible crash "on the highway," two weeks ago almost taking my right foot clean off my body.
I stood up after crashing from a fourth gear wheelie, tank wobble, it was all over but the highway exit sign post. Shorts and a tee shirt! God was on the back seat for sure. If I had hit the post with any part other than my leg I'd be in pieces. RESPECT, I didn't have enough then, but I do know! Slow shit is where it's at if you want to stay alive, and I sure as hell do!

Re: Awesome Rider, gone but not forgotten

Hate to bust into this thread about a different rider, but I ain't got access to start a new thread. Here's a story about another one who didn't need to die IMO. Some names may be familiar:

FREDERICK ----The 21-year-old Walkersville man who died Sunday while performing motorcycle stunts along U.S. 340 was wearing a helmet, T-shirt, socks and shoes, but no pants or underwear, according to authorities.
Shaun Paul Mattock was pronounced dead at the scene about 5 p.m. after popping a wheelie and striking a tow truck that was loading a car on the side of the highway, according to Maryland State Police Trooper David Ward.

Witnesses said Mr. Mattock and other motorcyclists were being filmed as they performed stunts going down the highway. Police said they did not know if that was true.

A logo on Mr. Mattock's motorcycle and helmet read, "Holding It Big Productions." The company's Web site, www.holdingitbig.com, has links to videos of young men performing motorcycle stunts.

The videos show them popping wheelies, spinning in circles on one wheel and crashing.

Another link to an advertisement said the Baltimore-based company, owned by Ben Meachum, would soon be in the area making a documentary-style film about extreme sports.

"(The films) will be focused on depicting the crazy, one-of-a-kind lifestyle that always seems to go along with it," the ad read.

Mr. Meachum did not respond to a phone message or an e-mail.

A man who answered the company's contact phone number listed on the Web site would not give his name or reveal his affiliation with the company.

When asked if Holding It Big Productions was filming Mr. Mattock at the time of the accident, he said, "The company films every day."

The man said he knew of Mr. Mattock and was familiar with the accident.

"(Mr. Mattock) was having fun, doing what he likes to do every day," he said. "He was with a bunch of his friends. He just took the ride of his life."

Trooper Ward said that just minutes before the crash, police received a call that a group of seven motorcyclists were performing stunts and driving erratically.

Assistant State's Attorney Kirsten Brown, who was called to the scene of the crash Sunday, said the case is under investigation to determine if charges should be filed.

She said the actions that led to the deadly crash put everyone on the highway in jeopardy. "It was extremely dangerous and scary," she said.

About 30 of Mr. Mattock's family members and friends gathered about 6 p.m. Monday along the westbound lanes of U.S. 340 near the crash site about a half mile west of the Mt. Zion Road exit.

Bottles of Coors Light, his favorite beer, flowers, balloons and other items were laid at the scene amid the tears and hugs of those gathered.

I don't know if b faulk still checks on here since that was some time ago. Today is the date of the anniversary of that horrible day. I remember it all to well. I am Duke's sister, we miss him terribly still. I just happened to stumble upon this today & thought I'd post. I am still hoping he will come down the driveway to come home. We will be visiting him @ his grave today.
