Question Clutch Wheelies

I have a 01 R1 and having trouble doing clutch wheelies. What is the best speed to start, how far do you pull the clutch in,and is it hard on the clutch?

Re: Clutch Wheelies

Go like 20 or whatever speed feels comfortable. Stay in 2nd (until you get used to the pop up) then just rev a little and pull clutch then release it. You will have to do that a little until you get fully comfortable with it. Just dont rush the situation and take your time or that pretty R1 will be toast. But you should be able to be in first and just crack the throttle to get it up. Good luck bro!!

Re: Clutch Wheelies

all depends...are you doing slow stuff or higher speed stuff.
a couple of things...

- your clutch could be sh*t
- your in too high of a gear
- are you letting the clutch out too slow
the bike has a strong motor so...be carefull
and keep your foot on the rear brake lever (always a good idea)

Do you pull the clutch in all the way or just a bit? and how many fingers are on the clutch?

Question Shoes or Boots

I have been riding with running shoes so I can feel the levers better, but if I go down I won"t have much protection. Which is more important, feeling the levers or the safty factor?

Re: Clutch Wheelies

I clutch it with 2 fingers... hold the clutch all the way in, give it some gas, and release the clutch quickly so it "snaps" back. Thats on a 600 tho.. dont see why itd be different on a 1000
