because stunters are performers that do put thier lives on the line weather thier doing a 150 mph wheelie, a slow 12 w/o gear, or a stoppie that can wobble, just my opinion

what has ANYONE done to earn big money? Most sports are talents that people want to see........supply and demand.......sure the demand isnt as big as the supply is for stunt riding right now........but neither was freestyle MX a few years ago. Hell if I could sign on as a free agent in 2008 to ride a wheelie once a weekend like a profootballer and make 30k an apperance........I wouldnt cry.

i dont think its so much of a thinking we should get paid big money but wanting to get paid big money, who doesn't want to get paid to live thier dream, or do what they love for money, why do you think so many of us wanna be prostitutes?

no one thinks that they are worth big bucks yet that i know of. We ask for bigger purses obviously cause they are better (DUH), but also to improve the likelyhood of us covering our costs to go do what we love. Im not trying to make a living out of riding, but i love to do it, want to go to FL to see my friends and compete, so the better the chance of me getting some money back, GREAT!

ALSO, hey if you can go out and get paid to do it, i don't care who you are or who is paying you, as long as you don't screw anyone else over to get there, then GREAT for you!!!

Getting paid in our sport is gettin closer and closer!!! Look at how far we've come in two years. A good purse then was 1000 dollars, now your event has to carry a 8000+ to be worthy of national competitors! A few teams are getting free bikes (congrats to Team X-Treme and the Starboyz!!!) How likely was that two years ago???

What will eventually bring us to "THAT" level is, as WET put it, "demand". The way to get that is to cater to the crowd! We need to give THEM more!!! Look at the most popular sports today, DRAMA is everywhere!!! WWF is one of the most popular (according to ratings) shows on TV, and that is just a soap opera!!! We need to give the crowds not just something to CHEER for, but something to ROOT for, like any other sport. We have to get them to the point of "my boyz MPZ from virginia are gonna kill you're PA boyz." Just like in FOOTBALL, our RAVENS are gona kick the **** out of your EAGLES. There has to be drama, fans have to be able to relate to us, want to cheer for us, root for THEIR FAVORITE RIDER. NOT JUST SEE A FEW COOL TRICKS!!!

That is why we need to do events that create this. Having riders go head to head in events that have HARD RESULTS, no judging!!! That is what will get them to CHEER for there favorite, and bring in more people, more loyalty to riders, and more money!

Sorry for the ramble, I've just been trying to get these points across to people and this seems to be a good thread to do it!!!

yeah, but there is a difference. Everyone LOVES to compare us to FMX, but right now, WE ARE DIFFERENT!!! They have BIG AIR, THRILLS, WOW FACTOR. We have really slow wheelies, HORRAY FOR US!!! We need to change what we are doing! MORE EXCITEMENT IS THE KEY PEOPLE!!!

Also, FMX has characters, the METAL MULLISHA is a GREAT example. Look at how many people relate to them, are fans of theirs, and now buy their ahit and go to their shows just cause of the IMAGE!!! SETH is another great character, when he was startin in the crusty vid, he had, lets say questionable talent, but everyone LOVED him cause he put it on the line, went BIG, was a GUY THAT THEY COULD GET BEHIND AND BE A FAN OF!!!

just some more to think about!

thats what the sport needs some cats that stick out like the metal mulisha, or one crazy guy like seth, and also i ride fmx with dan jackson and steve and the people we are around always want to see us stunt street mostly instead of fmx. i dont recall but i think the metal mulisha was one of the groups that got the sport going strong because of thier attitude and thier crazy skills, who sticks out in my mind in this sport - well lots of riders for skill, but - hell i dont know

-- by the way, Seth in Crusty 1, overshooting the dune jump, was AWSOME! brings back memories just thinking about that

WET and Tenny both have good points. I don't know how many people *expect* to get paid, but everyone *wants* to get paid in some fashion. I dont care about lamborghinis and bottles of Louis XIII, but if i could have a couple of bikes that i could ride (and sometimes crash) everyday, and about $50k worth of camera gear, i'd be happy. Does that mean i want to get paid? well.. that cameragear aint gonna buy itself. doesn't mean i expect to get paid, however, simply because i'm some asshat who can do a wheelie.

Just like with football, or basketball, or FMX, or even being in a rockband.. something can go from being a HOBBY or a recreation, to a profession.. when you attain a level of skill where you have a marketable product that can be sold. Sometimes this product is your ability to do whatever, perform a talent.. othertimes it is an actual product such as a DVD or a t-shirt or a crash cage your stunt team makes.

I dont think there's anything wrong with wanting to make money. I do think there is something wrong with rockstar attitudes. just my $.02
