05 gsxr subframe brace.

just thought id share some pics of the subframe brace my friend and I made friday night. I had a 12 bar i bought last year and the first time it hit asphalt it broke my subframe. I rode all summer with nothing and finally smashed my tail and rude people think that they need to stall on my bike and hurt its feelings when its broken. so we built this thing cost 30 bucks in steel and a few beers. Ill post up pics with my good camera when I get it put on the bike. turned out well but i gave my welder a few to many beers haha a weld or 2 arent as pretty as he can make them so we said fuck workin and busted out some champion kegstands

Re: 05 gsxr subframe brace.

All I ever do is plate the stock subframes and that works great. I've hit it hard as hell on my 04 GSX R600 and on my 06 GSXR 600, No problems at all. I'd rather have the subframe break though then the frame tabs though. The subframe is much easier to repair. I can post up some pics if you're interested to see what I did?

Re: 05 gsxr subframe brace.

my friend did this, but instead of running the brace to the sub mounting spots he ran them like 6 inchs longer and bolted them to the frame, shit was strong as hell.

Re: 05 gsxr subframe brace.

I had this huge old shit assed 12 bar for about a year scraped ot all to shit. Put a brand new FI bar on it and snapped a tab off the frame. *facepalm* So my solution was similar to urs. I ran some square tubing over the sub up to the peg mounts then 1X1 angle from there to the bar. Used 3X3 angle on the frame itself and notched around the inside where necessary drilled thru the frame and added 4 bolts. Welded it up and drilled thru for longer bolts on the stock tabs. The whole thing just slides on using the 3 remaining tabs like locators. Its damn solid now. Got that mad max look now. Its gunna get torn down this winter and the whole frame reinforced, fab a full steel sub w lower legs mounting just above the rear sets, and a cage that mounts bt the motor mounts instead of on them. Friggin pain in the ass to get a 905 cage off of an 02.

nice after i built this we figured out that we coulda just built a new subframe after seeing how easy it was and not that much more cost wise to do a complete subframe... same day my friend snapped the subframe off of his r6s so im drawin one on CAD right now and we are gonna build it, after that Ill prolly just end up building me a complete subframe too.

yeah man i think i know what u mean but pics would be awesome we just went to lowes and thru this together, kinda a trial and error thing i have barely any money in it so hackin it up and switching around some stuff doesnt bother me at all, im not planning on slamming it hard over and over but... it happens haha, just my other sub literally broke from barely anything

I'll take some pics and post them up for you. Stock they are extremely frail. The cross brace at the very rear that connects the two sides breaks very easily too, so I make my own using a 1 inch solid rod. I'll post pics of that also. I also add some cross braces in the middle to add additional support to stop the subframe from "Bowing" under load and to reduce side-to-side flex. I cut the stock peg mounts off and weld on solid blocks to ensure they don't break. I'm using aluminum for all this and tig welding everything together. The 06 07 subframes are a little more tricky, but solid once reinforced.

I never plan to hit mine hard either. But a few "foot slips" off the pegs and it happens.

Re: 05 gsxr subframe brace.

Here are some pics of the 05 gsxr 600 subframe and how I brace them up. It's the same for the 04-05 600 and 750. I do the same thing for a ton of other bikes. I also make dual fan setups for various bikes to keep them running cool and make my own radiator supports. The pics are high res.
